Say look!" my new classmates would hound me just so they could have a good chuckle at my accent. But being incredibly shy, this was a great way for me to make friends.
My love of words and a creative imagination prompted English teachers to urge me to write for a living. My grade 12 Creative Writing teacher suggested I send a sample of my “sizzling dialogue” to the (then) three major television studios in New York City. He was convinced one of them would hire me to write for a soap opera. But, being the still-shy teenager, I didn’t have the courage to do it.
Through the years, I wrote all types of stories while I earned a living as an Administrative Assistant in various businesses including a bank, a car rental firm, an ice cream company, and a pharmaceutical manufacturer. I was more than a little peeved when I discovered none of them gave out free samples. Do you believe that? None of them! Geez. I went on to own a Wedding Coordination business for six years (talk about romance!), all the while being happily married to the love of my life (yep - even more romance!).
These interesting jobs plus wedded bliss gave me oodles of ideas for romantic plot lines, swoon-worthy heroes and feisty, beautiful heroines, and, of course, the happy ever afters.
So amidst endless cups of strong tea while Cole Porter tunes and the dead parrot sketch whirl around in my brain, I write romances with a dollop of humour. I have an irresistible need to create captivating characters whose lives I can make completely miserable before giving them their happy ending.
I currently live in Mississauga and wonder how all the wine and chocolate magically appear in my house...

Had me on the first page.
Man up, man club. You're going to cry. Don't get me wrong, the heat is scorching in here, too. But the feelings are so strong, streaming from inelegant launch to spectacular finish. These characters are so real, the situations powerfully provocative. You won't escape some powerful emotion. You'll be excited, aroused, nervous, terrified and thrilled. I don't care who you are. This romance will get to you.

This book hooks you in quickly. The story is lovely and you pray for the couple to getting together, even if she is engaged and pregnant.
I will definitely read more from this author and recommend this book to any romantic.

Victoria Grant's writing is full of wonderful emotional energy. It is so easy to read and effortless to picture everything that is going on and to feel all the emotions of the characters. I was immediately swept into the characters and the story. This is character-driven romance at its best with all the feelings that make me love to read romance.
I loved these two characters and I loved them together. This is a story of two imperfect human beings, my favorite kind of romance. It is a story of two people who have been trapped for a long time by their own comfort zones, boxed in by the way they have become accustomed to viewing their lives, and not being very happy as a result. But I don't think either was aware of being so unhappy or unfulfilled until they find each other.
Ms.Grant shows how the power of love shows them how different their lives could be, a life full of color and not just shades of beige...if only they have the courage to trust in each other. But imperfect people often times make imperfect choices and the course of true love never runs smoothly. It's an enjoyable, emotionally engaging journey.

Despite being an extremely slow reader, this one, I read in one sitting! We’d had an extremely long and hard winter, and I’ve gotta say, that if I had been trapped in a snowstorm like Laney Calderone, I would not have complained about the snow one bit! Tall, dark, and handsome and on top of that he can cook! I loved the banter back and forth between Laney and Tyler, and pretty much everything else about this lovely romance!

New Book Alert: Stranded in Love by Victoria Grant; A Charming, Cute, But Formulaic Romance Novel For The Holiday Season

There are worse ways to spend your time this Holiday Season than to read a romance novel. Romances spring to life around Christmas as often as they do on Valentine's Day. Many Readers delight in the scenes of winter pageantry, cozy passages of togetherness between the main couple, a subplot involving someone trying to help others such as the poor or injured or ill family members, and of course exchanges of gifts (one of which is no doubt a small box just the size of a ring), and of course a kiss under the mistletoe. Romances are big business right now. (That's probably why the Lifetime and Hallmark channels are saturated with Christmas Romance films this time of the year.)
One of those romances is Stranded In Love by Victoria Grant, a cute charming novel about a cute charming couple that meet during a big snowstorm and through several days of the female party getting stuck in the man’s home, a romance develops between the two.
Laney Calderone is the somewhat spoiled, but smart only daughter of Boyd Calderone, a prominent Toronto businessman and CEO of Calderone Industries, a leading telecommunications company where Laney works as a Vice President. On what will qualify as the worst day of her life, Laney discovers that she is pregnant and her fiancé, Ramone breaks up with her claiming he “isn't ready to settle down with a kid.” Not only that but her car breaks down during a blizzard (in Toronto snowstorms can last for several days) and she is stranded.
Fortunately, she receives assistance in the form of Tyler Hammond, a soon-to be-divorced Investment Adviser. He takes one look at the beautiful woman and invites her to stay at his apartment to wait out the snow.
In reality or psychological thrillers, this invitation would receive more suspicion and mistrust and Laney would be shoved into a basement where she would be regularly tortured. Fortunately for Laney, this isn't that kind of book. Instead she and Tyler spend the next few days arguing, getting on one another's nerves, apologizing, talking about childhood memories and current goals, and dancing together (except Laney doesn't tell him about her pregnancy). During their short time together, the two become lovers and settle into a comfortable existence until the snow stops, the plows arrive, and Laney realizes that she has to return to reality, her close and smothering family, and impending single motherhood.
Laney and Tyler make for a sweet charming couple. There are times where their emotions are all over the place and the two bicker like high schoolers. However, there are plenty of sweet moments to spare particularly when they are stranded at Tyler's apartment during the snowstorm. In one passage, Laney panics after Tyler leaves concerned that the flickering power means that he got stuck in a powerless elevator. Of course he returns and all is well, but this moment solidifies their relationship from one of animosity between strangers to one as friends and potential lovers.
Laney and Tyler also show a deep physical connection when they observe the Toronto skylights on the cold rooftop and dance together (earning each other the pet names of “Fred” and “Ginger.”).
Their time together is complete bliss that while creates conflict between two stubborn argumentative people is also one of affection and kindness.
At times the plot of Stranded in Love is formulaic, so formulaic that even someone who does not read many contemporary romances, like me, can recognize the patterns. We see the Other Man, who is superficial and only reappears in Laney's life so he can get a good paycheck. The Other Woman is also present and she is conniving and manipulative towards her ex and rival. We also have the Heroine's Snobbish Mother who doesn't care for her daughter's savior even though he is handsome, kind, helpful, and polite. Of course these characters are mere distractions on the road to the inevitable Happy Ending. This book sticks to formula so much that it is a nice surprise that Laney's father and four brothers are genuinely friendly towards Tyler and supportive of Laney's pregnancy and her new relationship.
This makes it sound like I don't like the book. On the contrary, it is sweet the way Romances often are. It is the type of book that a person reads to be entertained and for the pure escapism that can be found in such a love story. Stranded in Love makes for a nice stress reliever for the pressures of the season including shopping for gifts, decorating the house, and welcoming relatives. For a book like this, all that is needed is a pleasant setting and a sweet couple to inhabit it. Victoria Grant delivers what is a great early Christmas gift for the Romance lover.

Being a book worm is hard! There's thousands upon millions upon probably billions of books to read out there, and you always hope you find the magic mix of your reading style and the book. The Calderone Family Romance series is one of those series that just vibes with me. It's a fun, fast paced romance series packed with drama and really hot scenes. I'm so thankful I found one of those series, because I can dip into these books and suddenly I've swam out to the deep and and it's already too late... I've binged the book.
Now, let's get past my fun, little introduction. We've got Book 1, Stranded in Love, for this series! Now, a kind warning: I am reading this series out of order. I already jumped into a book later on in the series, but it does not affect my reading experience at all. It only made me way more interested in reading up on the rest of this series! So, perfect note for you readers - feel free to give this series a read out of order. Unless you are totally offended by learning who the couples end up with and their futures first... It's a good time!
This book is a Christmas read! It might not be the most obvious Christmas book, but it's set in the winter time in a snowstorm in good ol' Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Shout-out to my fellow Canadians!
We have Laney Calderone, the only daughter in the famous Calderone family. They are big, hot shots with a very expensive company under their belts. We have the parents, Eve and Boyd, who are basically royalty in Toronto (as it seems). Eve is a wee bit of a drama queen, and Boyd seems to be a more kind and gentle partner to balance out his wife. We also have Laney's many brothers (who will eventually be getting their own books in the series). Charles, Noel, and many more will pop up!
So, Laney is out in a snowstorm and gets stuck. There isn't anything more true than that statement when you are in Ontario. She just found out she was pregnant and her awful, no good fiancee broke up with her over it. He's trash, which pretty much any character (except Eve and Ramone himself) would tell you. Along walks in Tyler, a guy who seems to instantly butt heads with Laney around every corner. He plays knight in shining armour, to save the day and bring her to his house so they can wait out the storm. Sure, it seems creepy and you can understand Laney's dismay, but it turns out being a little too good... Something romantic starts brewing, especially with a week of time alone in a big apartment...
The comedy and sexy scenes will keep you pulled into this book. It definitely gives off soap opera level drama levels in this book, so be ready for insta-love, quick romances, sudden arguments and dramatic characters. I enjoyed it for the escape that it was! It's a fun, fast paced romance book that doesn't leave me bored or feeling like I'm left behind. It's just long enough too, so it's a nice, quick read.
Bonus points for the Fred and Ginger quotes. These books are excellent at random quotes and pop culture references. I thoroughly enjoy it.
I recommend this book if you love: cheesey romances, insta-love stories (or at least very fast relationships), soap opera drama and a fun, fast paced book.

I’m going to break this review up into two sections.
First 100 pages: Laney found out she was pregnant, told her fiancé (whom she didn’t actually love), and he (Ramone) was furious so he called off their engagement. Tyler is in the process of divorcing his wife, proceedings that aren’t going smoothly at all. By chance or by fate, Laney and Tyler’s paths cross on one snowy night in Canada.
They are stranded together for almost a week in his apartment. They mostly argued but they did have many moments when they got long famously, in other words they “made love.” “Made love” was not a word I wanted to use but it was thrown out there. Honestly, how can you “make love” to a person you don’t know. Tyler had no clue Laney was pregnant with her ex-fiancé’s child. Another thing that bugged me, on day six (6), when the snowstorm had passed, Tyler was furious Laney was leaving him because he wanted to discuss their future. The man isn’t even divorced yet; his divorce isn’t drama free, so why would he even contemplate another relationship.
Even if I could get past the numerous fights, childish insults, I couldn’t overlook the secret bun in the oven and the not yet finalized divorce.
Next 100+ pages: After Laney returns home, she’s immediately thrown into more stressful situations. Her mother is attempting to control her, her ex-fiancé want to marry her again, Tyler won’t let up on her, and she’s had to endure a heated confrontation with his (Tyler’s) estranged wife. As Victoria Grant, the author, made very clear.. stress is not good for a baby.
There were obviously times I felt compassion for Laney and her situation. However, for the majority of the book, I didn’t like her or her character. For some reason, she just left a sour taste in my mouth. I wasn’t a fan of Ramone either but I think most people won’t care for him and that’s Victoria Grant’s intention. Tyler, well, I didn’t really love or hate him. Really, I had no feelings regarding his character either way. Yes, he was a Good Samaritan and kept Laney safe in the snowstorm. On the other hand, he was too pushy for my liking. In my opinion, a man shouldn’t propose marriage when he’s still technically married. And, Laney shouldn’t have had sex with him without telling him she was pregnant with another man’s baby. Basically, they both made a bunch of bad decisions.
With all that said, I will give credit to Victoria Grant for writing a story that had plenty of drama because life is full of drama. Also, the book ended on a happy note. There was a surprise revelation along with the happy announcement but I will refrain from discussing it. I think Tyler’s reaction to the shocking disclosure sums up my feelings regarding the situation perfectly.

A well-written romance
Ms Grant has a wonderful flair for writing, the story was engaging and it was a quick entertaining read. I enjoyed the romance that blossomed between Laney and Tyler in the first few chapters. After the snowstorm passed and Laney went back to her normal life, however, I wasn’t a huge fan of her character. She was incredibly passive, letting everyone dictate her life for her especially her overbearing old-fashioned mother, who seemed more like a Stepford wife stuck in the 70s. She didn’t fight for what she wanted and spent the second half of the book confused and unsure of what to do with herself. Maybe it’s the realistic way a 25-year-old spoilt diva would act but her lack of drive annoyed me. The brothers were fun although why one of them did the whole “hurt my sister and I’ll kill you” routine with Tyler and not that ass of her ex fiancé Ramone is beyond me.
Overall, very well-written and paced. An excellent debut novel Ms Grant.

She was incredibly passive, letting everyone dictate her life for her especially her overbearing old-fashioned mother, who seemed more like a Stepford wife stuck in the 70s. She didn’t fight for what she wanted and spent the second half of the book confused and unsure of what to do with herself. Maybe it’s the realistic way a 25-year-old spoilt diva would act but her lack of drive annoyed me. The brothers were fun although why one of them did the whole “hurt my sister and I’ll kill you” routine with Tyler and not that ass of her ex fiancé Ramone is beyond me.
Overall, very well-written and paced. An excellent debut novel Ms Grant.

I liked that not everything about this book was roses and rainbows even though it's not a dark romance. I think that the dance between Lainey and Taylor was quite long and began to drag a little past half through the book. Well edited.

Lovely romance
This is the second book that I've read by this author. It is also the second book I've read with the Calderone family. Technically, this is book one in series, but I think each book is fine to read as a standalone book. Love, true love, real love, the deep in your soul love abounds in this novel. This kind of love and snowy weather is a perfect fit. Five stars.

This first book in the Calderone series had me hooked! I could not put it down. I found myself giggling out loud in several spots. The dialogue between Laney and Tyler is very entertaining, and their romantic tension is electric. The book is a quick read that leaves you eager for the next one. I have since read all the books, and the series is fantastic! Highly recommend.
