Preaching Evangelistically: Proclaiming the Saving Message of Jesus

by Roy Fish, Roy Fish, Steve Gaines

What is the point to preaching? With so many agendas competing for pulpit time these days, it can be easy to forget the exact purpose of our calling—to proclaim God’s salvation through Jesus who died and is now resurrected. Preaching Evangelistically looks at the different elements of gospel preaching and how they are best used to effectively proclaim Jesus.

I appreciate the emphasis this book has on preparing your heart before preaching evangelistically. I was also stirred to be more evangelistic while reading this book: We must appeal and plead with people to be reconciled to God. The warnings against abusing invitations are also needed. I am disappointed the book failed to explain how preaching evangelistically differs from normal preaching. Not addressing this issue weakens an otherwise helpful book.
