These books just get better and better. My favorite experiment involves putting a ghost into a shoebox which I really want to try. While the answers to the mysteries are not always that hard, the science fact blended in with the experiments are truly the best part. I'm starting to wonder just how big the fifth grade is at their school though, the way their classmates keep coming to them with cases.

Almost click bait title here, but the aim is sound, it disproves a fraudulent ghost with science. It is complete with activities again and the story is engaging and not too long, telling what it needs to without extra padding. A good read for the younger reader with educational qualities done in a way that the unsuspecting reader won't even realise they are learning!

Great detective series for young readers in which the main characters are young scientists. They use soda and vinegar to blow a client out of a laundry chute, solve the problem of the dye-sabotaged flower contest, and debunk the ghost haunting the town graveyard. Clever writing and memorable characters helped make this book enjoyable. The author (a microbiologist turned children's science-writer) includes explanations and experiments, just the thing for children interested in science. About the same reading level as the A to Z mysteries or Encyclopedia Brown.

I wanted to like this more than I did. The mysteries are short 13 Encyclopedia Brown 13like, and will be enjoyable for kids, but it's not the greatest fit for a fourth grade unit on Mysteries. On the other hand, I did like the science experiments at the end tied to the mysteries solved in the book.

I think that Drake Doyle and Nell Fossey are great scientists because they can figure out all sorts of things.
