Behold, probably one of the finest collections of strange, interesting, colorfully presented, and jaw-dropping facts around today. I spent a weekend looking through this book with my boyfriend (both of us are self-proclaimed nerds for collections of fun facts) and we couldn’t get enough of the short, weird blurbs and pretty pictures.
SEEING IS BELIEVING! is organized into sections of particular interests. There are chapters for facts relating to people, natural phenomena, technology, the animal kingdom, and more. If you’re an equal-opportunity science lover like me, no page is more or less interesting than the other: all are colorful, well-designed, and frightfully interesting. When I took breaks from reading it with my boyfriend to do some schoolwork, every his frequent cries of fascination or horror would inexorably draw me back to read whatever cool page he was on.
This book is not one you can read in one sitting, and indeed you would not want to. Instead, it’s perfect for the occasional browse, for when you have five minutes to open to a random page and devour it. My boyfriend loved that it was a perfect read for those with a short attention span, as you’re never pressured to read the facts in a particular order or amount to understand what it’s about.
My one complaint regards the construction of the book. While I was reading, the white “binding strip” that’s supposed to be located in the spine kept on sliding out, to my frustration. Whether or not this is an anomaly, I do not know, and I think that the book’s intended audience—fact-loving kids or science nerds—will not mind.
Overall, SEEING IS BELIEVING! is an ideal thirty-dollar Christmas or birthday present for the kid who begs for a copy of the Guinness Book of World Records each year it’s printed. (And, uh, yeah, while I didn’t beg, I certainly didn’t mind getting it for a present!) Its color, layout, and carefully selected thousands of crazy facts will be sure to shock and impress anyone who dares to look beyond the cool holographic blinking eye on the cover.

What can I say about this book? I don't know about all of you, but I love reading facts and figures about all kinds of things, and that's what Ripley's Seeing Is Believing is all about. This is definitely not a book to absorb in one sitting--I rather think my head might have exploded, trying to absorb some of what I was seeing! Instead, I think this is a fun book to have sitting about to pick up and read passages at random. Reader beware: some of the tidbits are not for the faint of heart! (And that includes some of the pictures.) Here are some samplings of what you'll discover:
POISON LAKE: On August 21, 1986, a highly concentrated amount of carbon dioxide bubbled to the surface of Cameroon's Lake Nyos and suffocated 1,746 people and thousands of animals as far as 15 miles away.
AGE GAP: In 2006, 104-year-old Wook Kundor of Kuala Berang, Malaysia, married her 21st husband--a man 71 years younger than herself.
TIRE RIDE: A cat survived a two-and-a-half-hour truck journey by clinging onto a spare tire. Gil Smith drove 70 mi (113 km) from Gilbert, Arizona, to Kearny, unaware that his cat Bella had climbed onto the tire beneath his truck.
Crazy stuff, right? I thought this was a highly interesting and amusing book, and I'm looking forward to learning strange new facts every day!

This book is about extraordinary things in the world that seems hard to believe. Some are about people doing amazing things or looking different. Some are about animals who were born different or who are able to do special things. Another section in this book is about crazy inventions that seem insane but actually work. Things in this book take places all over the world with all different facts about it.
I'm going to make a text-to-world connection. I'm making a text-to-world connection because people in the world can relate to this. Almost everyone in the world has something extraordinary about them. This relates to a text-to-world connection because this book is about people who are able to do special things that not everyone can do. That's why it's a text-to-world connection.
I rate this book 5 stars because it is a great book. It has great interesting facts about people all over the world. It also talks about other people's cultures. I recommend this book to someone who would like to read interesting facts.

This is one of those books you really cannot find fault with. What's not to love, with it's small paragraphs full of shocking, sometimes grotesque, facts about people who've done strange and unusual things, with pictures!
There are thousands to pick from, but some of my favorite tidbits are the Japanese artists who carves really detailed art into watermelons, and the dental tech who draws small portraits of famous people, on teeth.
One of the more shocking facts, at least in my mind, is about a guy who tattooed his eyeball.
I enjoyed every minute of reading this book. And I got a feeling of accomplishment after finishing it. Maybe I even felt a little wiser. It's a perfect gift for adults and kids.

Everyone has heard of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not correct? I mean it’s a pretty awesome show if I do say so myself. I’ve spent hours glued to the screen while eating some form of snack/breakfast/lunch then questioning why I decided to put food in my mouth. It’s gruesome at times, it’s abnormal many times, and very, very addictive to watch.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Seeing is Believing follows this ideal process of amazing the audience with unusual facts—though at times not very strange at all, but that’s 1 out of every 15. This book is a perfect gift to be shared by everyone. It’s an odd fascination that can only be more fun with more readers. So grab a copy, grab some friends and be dazzled!

My kids and I went through this book, and we had a great time! It was absolutely CRAZY, and my kids are now filled with the most wierd and insane facts that I have ever heard. It was really a lot of fun, especially for my nine year old son. This was a really fun way for us to bond and read something together.
