Big Bird, Elmo, and their friends learn something special about friendship from a little lightning bug in this Sesame Street Step 2 Step into Reading title. Beginning readers who are reading with help will enjoy this sweet story starring their favorite characters from Sesame Street .
Five stars because it's a great representation of Sesame Street. And I'd also like to give myself five stars for my ability to perfectly mimic every voice of every Sesame Street character featured in this book. I wish I could personally read this book for you and your child. My interpretation of this fantastic story, done in voice and song, is an absolute delight. My voice talents have been wasted in pointless half-careers and false starts. I could have been a star.
It has a mistake in it, so regardless of the story I can't rate this as anything above 1 star. Trying to teach a child to read and you call Big Bird "bird bird" on page 24. As my 6 year old asked "why didn't they cross out their mistake and fix it?". Why indeed?
Big Bird catches a lightning bug and learns that the lightning bug should be free instead of living in a jar. A good book for a preschool lesson about taking care of animals.
Outstanding children's book! Teaches empathy as well as any children's book ever written. Yes: it's that good. Even a toddler can appreciate the story here: well meaning Big Bird captures a firefly (lightning bug) and places it in a jar. He's eager to share the critter with all of his Sesame Street pals. But alas, the poor firefly is increasingly glum about being in the jar and nothing seems to cheer him up. Big Bird and friends try everything to please the little firefly: a pillow, a cookie, conversation... but he's just too sad to twinkle. At last Big Bird sets him free and the firefly joyously twinkles once more. If you love someone, set them free...
