Codes and Roses

Rate this book
Codes and Roses features three stories about the denizens of the Bloodrose, a club that pairs up supernatural creatures for the optimum sexual experience.

In An Itch to Scratch, werewolf Deke hopes club owner Jonny can find him someone to satisfy his needs. Kasey seems to be the perfect vampire for the task of scratching Deke's itch.

In The Werewolf Code, Deke and Kasey work together in Kasey's PI agency to solve the problem of a rogue shapeshifter. Throw in a crazy scientist and a cool blonde, and the boys have plenty of trouble on their hands. Can they break the Werewolf Code?

Finally, in Belling the Cat, club owner Jonny gets his own chance at happiness, thanks in part to the privileged clients of the Bloodrose. When werecat Luc tries to steal some of Jonny's files, things go haywire, and Jonny, along with Deke and Kasey, has to save the day From supernatural beings to erotic adventures, Codes and Roses promises a hot, bumpy ride, where no one is exactly as they seem, and love comes easier in the dark than it does in the daytime.

Codes and Roses is a set of three short stories about the customers of a sex club called the Bloodrose. Willing paranormal participants are partnered up according to taste for an optimum time, based on an application and experience. It's sort of an in-real-life eharmony or Fetlife for werewolves and vampires. The stories circle around a werewolf, naked Deacon, who gets off on the bite of vampires. He is paired up with a vampire named Kasey, who wants nothing more than to drink from and ravish the sexy werewolf that he has just obtained. The other stories include a rouge shapeshifter, a weird scientist, and a douchebag werecat.

First, let me just say, I don't mind reading erotica. I don't mind reading MM erotica. So anything I say about this review should be read with that in mind.

-This is one of the few times that I would judge a book by its cover. It's not well done, in my opinion, and it would never get my attention on a shelf.

-Dare I say- there is too much sex. I like erotica just as much as the next girl, but I would actually like a plot. I was only fifty pages into this collection and I found myself thinking, "Oh, we're doing this again?" And when it did happen, it was rather short and anticlimactic.

-On that note, I didn't feel that the sex was varied. There was a very limited vocabulary that made it seem as though I was reading the same scene over and over again. There are a LOT of words out there to use, other than the "c word". It made the book seem a bit trashy and not all too original.

-On top of that, there was some very poor grammar. There were sentence fragments that irked me, but what bothered me the most was the vampires. It's acknowledged in the mythology of vampires (as well as specifically in this book) that they are old, and come from different times. They should speak eloquently, while these vampires seemed like truckers.

-I'm a bit confused on the chronicling of these stories. This novel is supposed to contain books 1, 2, and 3. But when I clicked on the series page, I saw that the "third" story in this is marked as number four, and that there's another in front of it. I have no idea what that's about.

+That being said, I really do like the concept of this club. Enough so that it bumped this rating to a two star review, instead of one. If properly written, it would have been a delightful setting to read about.

If you're into M/M or paranormal erotica, or like when there's constant, short lived sex scenes, great. Maybe you'll like this better than me. If you prefer detailed, slower moving types of stories, give this a pass. I don't really recommend it to anyone.

This was three vignettes in one book. It is paranormal M/M romance. There are werewolves, vampires and shape shifters involved with this book. If this isn't your thing, then I suggest not reading this book.

I want to write about the book as a whole, and write about how good it is, and then break it down to the three individual vignettes.  The book was just so delicious. There were plenty of scorching hot sex scenes, there was drama and excitement, and of course the million dollar question, is there going to be a resolution to the story. The book was fast paced and each story was complete. What I mean when I say this, is there was a complete story and they each were interwoven into each other.

I loved the cast of characters in these stories. We have Deke and Kasey and Jonny and Luc. Each of these characters have their own story to tell and are entertaining to read about. They all have strong personalities, and they have alpha tendencies. They are stubborn as heck and are just too funny at times. I found myself giggling a few times throughout the book.

An Itch to Scratch --  In this book we are introduced to Deke and Kasey, and how they meet and hook up. Their relationship is fraught with difficulties, but somehow they'll muddle through. What I liked about this book, is how they learn to understand and appreciate each other. They each learn that they have to think about the other person, and life is not just about themselves anymore. They each grow as an individual and they learn to appreciate the other's differences, as well as their similarities.

The Werewolf Code -- In this book, Deke and Kasey have to learn how to get along with each other as coworkers. They each have a distinct style at how they approach work, and they have to trust each other that they're not going to do anything rash or jeopardize their lives. Once again, they each have to trust the other in their work environment. It's another layer of intimacy that they share and learn from each other.

Belling the Cat -- This is Jonny and Luc's story. Luc doesn't trust anyone and Jonny doesn't have long relationships. They each need to give up some control to the other in order to learn how to trust each other. It's a delicate balance that the two of them learn. Trust doesn't come easy, but the rewards are sweet.

I hope that if the reader decides that paranormal romance is what they are in the mood for, I hope you give this book a try. It's a pleasurable way to spend some quality alone time reading.

Overall I did not enjoy this book and do not recommend. I really had a problem with the author using g.d. throughout this book. It was my first m/m book. This was a hard book for me to read and I did not finish reading.
