I must admit I was not impressed with this one...two boys apparently have been hanging out at the local pond and see a Duck and her eggs...they start feeding the duck only to have it mysteriously disappear leaving her eggs abandoned...the boys decide to save the eggs themselves and head to the library to find out how...they then take the eggs back to their apartment where they manage to gain access to the boiler room in which they have decided to place the eggs and return three times a day to turn them over...the maintenance man helps them and when they hatch (within days) the boys manage to get them all back out to the pond where another duck rapidly adopts them and they live happily ever after...somewhere there was suppose to be a connection made between the ducklings and a missing father but it was very thin...I thought perhaps this was a book from the fifty's or sixty's but my print said 1993...it is not that it is a bad read - it just is not full of body...I might recommend it for the early reader...perhaps first maybe second grade
