POWER OF 2

Rate this book
New York Times bestselling author Rodd Wagner and Gallup Vice Chairman Gale Muller explore the crucial dimensions of a successful partnership and the stories of famous pairs who epitomize those elements.

Many of the greatest accomplishments can only be reached by two people working together. Tenzing and Hillary were first to scale Everest. Malone and Stockton were the key to each other’s success on the basketball court. Eisner was never as effective at Disney without Wells.

But while some partnerships reach great heights, others fall short. Why do some people click while others clash? What do great pairs have in common? And what can you learn from the most powerful partnerships to strengthen collaboration in your work and personal life?

Based on Gallup’s groundbreaking research, Power of 2 details the eight elements that prepare partners to succeed in their most important endeavors. Gallup shares the science and the secrets of successful collaboration.

Mixing key insights about human nature, field-tested discoveries and inspiring stories of partnerships that reached the pinnacle, Power of 2 will change the way you think about working with someone else.

I'm a New York Times bestselling author who's written three books so far, most recently "Widgets: The 12 New Rules for Managing Your Employees As If They're Real People." I'm a Forbes contributor. One of my books was parodied in "Dilbert."

I get to go where most people can't, and can only write about a fraction of what I get to see.

Each book I write has more codes hidden in it than the one before. I am working on my first novel.

Nothing pleases me more than helping people find greater happiness at work, which is, for most of us, a large part of life.

6. Tha thứ nếu đối phương phạm lỗi lầm (trong chừng mực)
Nhớ đc nhiêu đó thôi 🤪.

Great work doesn't happen in isolation, and "Power of 2" by Rodd Wagner & Gale Muller explains why partnership is the foundation of high performance.

Through Gallup's research, the authors unpack the science of collaboration, revealing eight essential elements that make partnerships thrive:

Complementary Strengths
A Common Mission
Fairness
Trust
Acceptance
Forgiveness
Communication
Unselfishness

The best partnerships may have a bit of friction, but unique strengths, aligned purpose and rich trust build resilience.

As a Career & Leadership Coach, this book reaffirmed what I see when working with my clients daily. The quality of our partnerships defines the quality of our results. I highly recommend "Power of 2" for anyone navigating collaboration, whether in leadership, entrepreneurship, or in life.

Rodd Wagner directly tackles the popular idea of solo celebrity. It is very true we like a single superman. He hones down and counters that idea with illustrative examples of Disney executives who manage extraordinary success where the CEO was creative opportunity seeking with short coming of big ego and overpromising his team while COO being the mediator/mood maker in the team and handle the hard exution. Rodd doesn't stop there but mentions every business celebrity you can think of.

I like his question format and clear examples of what it means to have a complementary skillset which not only is about technical hard skill but soft about creative and detailed oriented.

As a coach working with Gallup CliftonStrengths I’m fascinated by how people interact and how their strengths contribute to that interaction.

The authors provide a clear framework for thinking about these interactions; specifically partnerships of between two people. They do talk about strengths but go beyond. Based on their research, they provide 8 dimensions that break down into specific, measurable items. The stories illustrate each of the dimensions for further understanding. The dimensions and items are summarized in the appendix as Gallup Partnership Rating Scales.

Personally I found this book very helpful. While working with someone I care about on an important project for both of us, I was struggling to understand why our partnership was failing. I used the Rating Scales to pinpoint the reasons from my perspective of course, and to put these into words. We had a productive dialogue as my partner was open to sharing their perspective as well.

I highly recommend the book if you are deciding to enter into a partnership or to help you figure out why an existing one is not working out.

This is an interesting book detailing Gallup findings around how great partnerships are formed. While not revealing anything startling or new, the studies emphasize the skills and thoughts necessary to form great partnerships.

I thought this book was helpful for my learning in light of what I've already done with strengths-based leadership. What I MOST appreciated about this book were the stories highlighting some high-profile professional partnerships and what made them successful. Stories always help me to remember the authors' main points.

After reading this book I realized the importance of finding a partner who's goals align with your own and whose strengths complement yours. A true partnership cannot be "exponentially better" than two people working side by side unless your strengths complement each other.

A decent book that could have fit into a few pages. While all the anecdotes of the people who made good partners are interesting and illustrate the points, they were unnecessarily lengthy.

There were no surprises or truly enlightening observations. Much of the qualities for a well-working and effective collaboration are common sense and typical of any good relationship, whether they be personal or professional.

Still the book was worth a skim in a couple of hours.

Great to see the summary of the points from the partnerships and some of the stories were interesting, but of mild additional value.
