Camrose, a perfectly normal 12-year-old, has inherited responsibility for an ancient bone flute, an object of quest for two time-wandering rivals, one of them lord of the Otherworld. With the help of her friend Mark and the not-quite-human Miranda, Camrose braves fire and much worse to claim the flute and restore it to its rightful--and unexpected--owner.
I was born and raised in Ottawa, the middle child of seven. My family descended from Scottish, Irish, and English pioneers who settled in the Ottawa Valley when it was still mostly uncut forest. I grew up on tales of ghosts, runaway sleighs, and stolen children.
I began writing when I was old enough to hold a crayon, and I haven’t stopped since. Now I have five books published for young people, with more to come. I write what I love to read: stories of adventure, mystery, suspense, and fantasy: stories about ordinary people who get mixed up in extraordinary trouble.
Besides a fiction writer, over the years I have been a librarian, a press reader, a newspaper reporter, and a writer/editor at a university. I live in Kitchener, Ontario, with my husband Eric and a small, fierce cat named Pooka. My son and daughter-in-law are also published authors.
This was a really good and creepy story! Throughout the chapters, I had no idea what to expect because the plot kept getting bigger (AND CREEPIER) page after page. I must say that I was surprised by how the book ended - I really thought I could predict what would happen, but no... I was WAY off! *laughs*
ALL of the characters were really creepy too, except for Camrose and Mark, the main characters. Besides those two, there was NOBODY else I could trust in the story because they were all creepy and scary in their own ways.
this one had a whole lot of potential (that never went kinetic) for a long and amazing fantasy. but, for a younger reader, it might be a good starter fantasy. lots of holes in the story and the plot. but what can you do when the book is only 138 pages?
I read this in the 5th grade, and a book has never touched me as much as this one, it sent my mind whirling, and i hope to encounter one as this in my later years, i recommend deeply for young teens
