Concise biography of Monet including numerous color prints that trace the evolution of his painting from lifelike detail to Impressionism and eventually to an emphasis on sheer color that influenced later abstract painters like Kandinsky, Pollock, and Lichtenstein.

3.5 stars. better written that the other book i read in this series however it was also extremely repetitive and the formatting was still pretty dreadful. I did learn a lot about Monet and thought it was informative and a good starting point to learn.

Birgit Zeidler's illustrated biography of Claude Monet is a beautiful introduction to Monet's “Life and Work.” “Life and Work” is the book's subtitle. The book is part of the Art in Focus series. Paul Ashton translated the book into English with help from Goodfellow & Egan. Monet lived between 1840 and 1926. Each of the seven chapters includes a timeline of events in both Claude Monet's life and world history during his Lifetime; at only 91 pages, the book covers a great deal of ground. The book includes a glossary of terms used in the text. The book has large print text and is very readable. The first five chapters cover different parts of Monet’s life up to 1889. The last two chapters of the book are on Monet’s series of paintings such as "The Haystack Exhibition" (Zeidler & Ashton 68-69), the "Rouen Cathedral" (Zeidler & Ashton 70-71), "The Backwater of the Seine River" (Zeidler & Ashton 72-73), and finally the city of "London" in Great Britain (Zeidler & Ashton 74-75). The last chapter is on Monet's paintings of water lilies, which includes the death of Monet. The book includes an “Index of Works” (Zeidler & Ashton 94) and an “Index of Names” (Zeidler & Ashton 94-95) at the end. Zeidler's and Ashton's book is a beautiful introduction to the “Life and Work” of Claude Monet.

Non so nemmeno quante.
