Since this is based on a diary kept by Tchaikovsky, I included it in non-fiction. Technically, it is creative non-fiction moving toward fiction. I felt this book had a lot of heart and I loved the blend of fiction and non-fiction. I would have done some things differently if I had written the story, but overall I think it is an inviting and interesting book.

Neat book which I read aloud in the car to my children, and which even my husband commented he enjoyed. Thoughtful, informative, and replete with lovely illustrations.

I read this aloud to 3rd graders and it takes about 25-30 minutes. Historical fiction.

Audio was warm and real. We did this when the Titanic movie was released. Fasinating comparison.
