J.W. Goodwin’s ‘By the Light of a Darkened Forest’ was difficult to put down once I started reading. The story has a good mix of fantasy, adventure and romance that certainly added depth to the struggles of the main characters. The author included a time-travel element that was nicely woven in and added some bittersweet moments that will have readers hoping for sequels. The opening journey through the forest was the most exciting for me; it’s an element that I truly enjoy in fantasy and adventure novels, away from cities and into the Wild. As this is more of a young adult read, it did lack the depth of battle I prefer in fantasy that includes combat scenes. But that said, I think most readers will find the author added a worthy tale to the fantasy genre. Looking forward to future books from this author.
