When read without the spiritual perspective of God's love for us as His children, I can see why people don't like this book... thinking it is teaching your kids to chase their ball into the street, etc. But reading this book with the deep meaning behind the story, enjoy this book greatly! I read this book through the lens of knowing Christ as my savior and His unending love for us. No matter what we do or how far we drift away, He is always there for us, wanting to bring us back to closeness with Him. He does not give up on us, and life is so much better and fuller when we live it with Him! God is such an integral part of my family that my small children can read this book and understand this concept too, and we usually talk about it every time we read the book. I would highly recommend this one!

A kite grows tired of being controlled by his owner via the string that connects them so it breaks free. Freedom turns out to be dangerous as the kite crashes into a mountain, is ripped apart by an eagle building its nest, and goes headfirst over a waterfall to name a few unfortunate incidents.
In a happy ending, the boys rescues the kite, repairs it, and the two live happily ever after.
Overall the story is pretty lame, but the watercolor illustrations are actually quite good so this book would've been a great wordless picture book.
The story is followed by a Psalm (139:7-10).

I have problems with this book. The kite runs (flies) away and the boy follows it into EVERY dangerous scenario to retrieve it. This ends well for them both so... Moral of the story is (ok ONE OF the morals is...) go ahead and do whatever you need to do to get your ball back when you're playing with it. Oncoming traffic? No problem. Just get your ball!!

This is a beautiful story that reminds us that God has unconditional love for us, and will never give up on us, even when we turn away from Him.
