Investment banker Dave Hart needs his annual bonus. Anything less than a million pounds would be an insult. After all, he has to buy a new ca, a second home in the country and a new Rolex for his wife Wendy...When the countdown to bonus day begins, so does the backstabbing, desperation and paranoia. As the big day inches closer, amid rumours, sackings and nail-biting deals, Dave becomes increasingly unhinged - but just how low will he stoop to secure his prize? A tale of one man's quest for his annual bonus in a world where ambition, terror, insecurity and desperation are second nature to all those who inhabit it, At Bonus Time, No One Can Hear You Scream will keep readers gripped and wracked with laughter until the very last page.
An excellent series of 5. Dave Hart is a truly despicable character but you can't help falling in love with him and rooting for him every step of the way!
With summer hols around the corner these fast & loose tales are a must for the beach or the poolside accompanied by a Warner Edwards and Fever Tree or even better a Duke's Hotel style Martini which dave Hart himself would approve of. Shaken not stirred of course!
I gave this three stars, but if Goodreads would let you I'd give it three and a half. This starts off a bit slow, but basically gets stronger and stronger as it goes on.
In parts it is actually very funny indeed, and many of the observations and small details are absolutely delightful. It is also at times, fascinating. It turns into a hugely entertaining piece of drama and comedy, and I am looking forward to reading the next volume: Trust Me I'm A Banker.
It's just a shame about the beginning, which is a bit dull. If that was a bit better I'd have given it four stars, no problem.
This freaked me out to think it might slightly approach reality. But you can only laught at the exaggeration of the main characters. Enjoyed the reading, which also reminds of all we have (even without bonus :-) )
The end is exceptional!
Do you think he is realistic, or just a bold caricature?
Depressing because the banker is quite unscrupulous but quite funny if you've worked in that industry because all the characters and situations are recognisable.
