About the author

Ethan Long is a popular, award-winning and internationally recognized children's book author and illustrator with over 70 children's books, a Theodor Seuss Geisel Award and an Emmy-nominated television series to his credit. Just about all of his awake time is spent writing stories, drawing pictures and spending time with his family. Since graduating from Ringling College of Art and Design in 1991, Ethan has never stopped evolving, challenging his creative approach with each new project while constantly honing his instantly identifiable style. Born and raised in Central Pennsylvania, his childhood memories serve as inspiration for many of his drawings and stories. He currently lives with his wife and three children in beautiful Orlando, Florida, USA and flip flops seamlessly between being a world famous children's book author and a stay-at-home dad.

The duck steals the cookies he left out for Santa, and apologizes.

This book is quite short and makes for a quick read (which is a good thing when you've got squirmy kindergartners). The children quite enjoyed this one. The illustrations are cartoonish and deceptively simple. There are some clever touches such as the duck foot shaped stocking hanging over the fire place and the photo of the duck and poodle on the fireplace (this is humorous if you've read Stop Kissing Me by Ethan Long). One thing I found fascinating was how the kids responded to the duck's eating of the cookies. Every class I read this to pointed out that he could make some more. I explained that he didn't really have time to do that but it was a good idea. I really enjoyed reading this one aloud because of the emotion that duck expresses when he realizes what he has done. This one makes it easy to be expressive while reading it. Recommended for those who want a fun read, but also want a simple moral as well. Duck realizes that sometimes all that is required is an apology, something that many students need to be reminded of.

Duck is in a panic. He's worried about how Santa will view him this year: naughty or nice? he lays out cookies for Santa (so he can get good presents) but then gobbles them all up himself. How can he make amends? (to get good presents). His "apology" note to Santa is a lift-the-flap which keeps the interactive feel of this going strong.

Cute book about a duck who is good all year until he puts out cookies for Santa and eats them!
