Me hubiera gustado haber leído este libro cuando estaba en la universidad, mientras cursaba las clases que, al final, me sirvieron para muy poco. Aquí, Andrew Charleson resume, con una sencillez admirable («If emphasis upon the quantitative treatment of Structures is reduced in favour of the introduction of a broader range of structural topics taught qualitatively, then space can be created for more material on seismic design.»), ciertos conceptos que al principio pueden ser incluso contraintuitivos. No creo que pueda decir algo parecido a que este libro se lee como una novela, porque sería exagerar. Tampoco es un libro divulgativo; está enfocado a un público específico (el mismo título lo dice) con cierta formación académica, formación que yo conozco solo de manera tangencial, porque arquitecto no soy, pero fue precisamente eso lo que me hizo más entretenida la lectura. Haberlo leído en inglés también sumó a la experiencia.
Algo curioso que encontré en el libro es la referencia a varios ingenieros peruanos; incluso, alguno de ellos trabajó de la mano con el autor y algún otro venía desarrollando importantes avances en programas computacionales para el cálculo de estructuras. ¿Por qué me enteré de esto leyendo el libro de un extranjero?
