It is not until you begin to garden that you understand what it means to love a garden. --Paula Mary De Angelis
In 2016 the author became a member of a local allotment garden, with no previous gardening experience. Since then, gardening has become both her passion and her form of meditation. She is the grateful recipient of the gifts that her garden has given her, and in this book, she shares these gifts and the lessons her garden has taught her. The gifts are many and are freely given to all those who open their hearts to their gardens.
This book reminded me of “Gift from the Sea” by Anne Morrow Lindbergh; allocating time for solitude and mindful work to deepen the connection with oneself and all of life. At the same time, it made me think about another the book “What I talk about when I talk about running” by Haruki Murakami, where the repetitive activity became almost an addiction to this state of serenity, and how running influenced his discipline as a writer.
If you love visiting gardens, blooming trees, watching bees and birds, but are hesitant to garden yourself, then his book may encourage you to start and trust the process.
