On a beautiful summer day a young girl sets up a lemonade stand and sells enough cups of refreshment to add up to a dollar. Told in rhyme, this delightful story combines the teaching of addition with a traditional rite of childhood entrepreneurship!
What's the point of hosting a lemonade stand... if you can't even count your money?
In this "Step into Reading" book, the rhyming text keeps the topic light. While the inspiration to learn addition becomes as sweet as the tastiest summertime drink.
Besides teaching about money and addition, Penny's Lemonade Stand furnishes a useful lesson in charging what the traffic will bear.
FIVE STARS for this superb STEM-inspirational text by Julie Glass, plus the winsome illustrations by Joy Allen.
A Dollar for Penny by Julie Glass is a great book to introduce to young students about the concept of counting money. It shows students how to count to a dollar using the different coins such as pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. This book is also great because it shows students how to be responsible when spending money and how to earn their own money and become responsible. I would use this book with students in 1st-2nd grade.
This was really cute to me. She does a lot of math within the story adding money and changing her lemonade prices. I could easily use this when teaching about money and coins, adding money, and the dollar. I can think of fun activities for the students to do after, like store or creating their own stand.
Penny needs to earn some money to buy a gift. She opens a lemonade stand and earns enough coins for a dollar bill.
A quick and fun read about earning money. The author goes through counting and coin identification. The illustrations are full of action and compliment the story well.
Excellent step to reading book that incorporates Math. Penny sells lemonade for one cent a cup but when the lemonade starts to sell, the prices goes up. This was one of the books I chose for my daughter Jahauna from the library. I really liked that the end of the book showed how to add up cents to get to the dollar. Would recommend this book for parents!!!
This is a good early reader book that teaches about math and money in a fun way. It has fun illustrations, a peppy, rhyming narrative and big depictions of various coins so children can learn about the values of different coins. Our girls enjoyed this story.
It's about a little girl that sells lemonade to raise a dollar. It is a terrific way to help young students understand how coins work, the value, trade, and equivalence of coins.
Coins are shown and explained in an easy way for students to understand. I would read this book before introducing money, or as a refresher for students if they are forgetting their money skills.
