I really admired the main character, Jeannie's, strength and determination despite her circumstances with her crazy mother, druggie sister, and a father who didn't seem to care much about any of them. I agree with others who have said that some aspects of the story are a bit unrealistic and far-fetched, but I think that the author was trying to make the point that, even in the worst situations in life, it's still possible to come out on top and make the most of it.
This story was thoroughly entertaining, and I found myself truly caring for the character. However, there were words spelled wrong and numerous glaring typos ("chucks" of hair instead of "chunks", for instance). The book could have done with better editing, for sure. I also thought the ending was too abrupt. Still- four stars.
I didn't think this was a terrible book, but don't think I would ever re-read it. Interesting enough, but a little outlandish and unbelievable, however I am sure people like her parents really do exist!
