Janet Lawler has created a beautiful follow-up to her acclaimed A Father’s Song—and a wonderful celebration of the bond between mother and child.
All through the year, from summer showers to winter snows, a mother and daughter treasure their special time together. Hand in hand, they wander through the sunny garden, wade through shallow puddles, harvest crunchy apples, and skate and spin on a frozen pond. But above all, they’re…
happy to share
the magic that’s here,
all around, everywhere.
Lawler’s gentle words and Kathleen Kemly’s lovely art make this the ideal Mother’s Day book
Janet Lawler is the author of many books for children and is particularly inspired by the natural world. Her inspiration for this book came after listening to a YouTube recording of ten hours’ worth of walrus sounds, after which she wanted to learn more about these interesting creatures and share that knowledge with young readers. She had great fun creating words that reflect the weird noises walruses make! Janet Lawler lives with her family in Connecticut.
Although this is a quiet little picture book with unremarkable illustrations, and no particular "story" per se, it is nevertheless one that might be enjoyed by a mother and a young daughter together as it celebrates the wonderful "nature" experiences mother and daughter can explore together such as birds and gardens, apple picking, and making angels in the snow. The book is not for everybody, but it is a nice choice for more introspective mothers and daughters who can appreciate sharing the seemingly "little" moments in life together.
A lovely rhythm of rhyme and almost song-like. A great read-a-long and the pictures are a great accompaniment which basically helps a young reader identify the words to the picture. The art in the book is very calm yet the colors will draw attention to the listener.
