الكتاب ليس بسلس في طرحه ولا مترابط في أفكاره... وربما تكون عظمة المادة التي فيه سبباً في ضيق عباراته...

لاحظ "دزانتي" وجود انقطاع راهن بين العلوم والفلسفة، فهل صار الفيلسوف غير مؤهل لكي يحاضر في شروط إنتاج المعرفة إذا لم يكن قادراً على إنتاجها بنفسه؟ أي كما قال "باشلار" إنا السكوت عن علم ما أو الكلام عنه من خلال ممارسته...

يصعب اختلاط ماضي علم قائم حالياً مع العلم ذاته في ماضيه... فكان إحلال فيزيولوجبا أنزيمية محل بروتوبلازمية في تغذية النباتات الأثر الأكبر لاكتشاف ظاهرة التخمر غير الخلوي التي عارضها أنصار "باستور" لفترة طويلة... إن استخدام نموذج معاصر بأداة رجعية ليس إضاءة انتقائية على الماضي بل هو نوع من العمى بالنسبة إلى التاريخ كما يقول "إرنست ناجل"... لكن أوليس كوبرنيكوس مدين لعلم التنجيم عندما قلب الأسس الوهمية للأبراج، وأليس تاريخ الخيمياء مرحلة سابقة لعلم الكيمياء الحديث؟

إذا قارنا بين الطب القديم كالإغريقي والطب الحديث الذي أيده هارفي وديكارت، فإن الأول قائم على التأمل والتماثل الشكلي بين النظام الكوني والتوازن العضوي فتستطيع الطبيعة إصلاح الاضطرابات التي يحترمها العلاج الترقبي، بينما الثاني قائم على التدخل الفعال الذي نشأ عن طريق الكيمياء...

I expected more about this book. I don't know if I still not prepared to read philosophic books, bit I faced difficults to finish this onde. The autor explores the history of biology to explain the philosophy and the ideas of the discipline through the history. However I feel he should be more direct. Maybe someday I will read this book again.
