A lot of us wish we could just disappear, but Seval can actually do it. She is an Alliance bodyguard teamed with an Azon partner (see Arena Station for detail on the Azon). When her partner attracts the notice of a ruthless Ambassador, Seval needs to decide whether an invisible life is worth protecting without the love of the man she respects.
This author is prolific. Really, REALLY prolific - and that's a good thing because I enjoy her stuff. Note: these are short story/short novella sized works that share a common universe - a universe where 2000 Terrans were allowed to go out to the stars and establish that the Terrans could live, love, and adapt to the wider world...
I rate her stories pretty consistently as either 4s or 5s. Frequently there is sex - alien sex of course - and some very weird aliens they are but all seem to accomplish the 'insert tab A into slot B' thing to the delight of all concerned.
Below is the copy and paste from the author's web - overall the order doesn't matter much but she does tend to group several like minded stories together. [After awhile she seems to have adopted a 'naming convention' for her groups.] I do suggest you start with the Champions of Terra:
Arena Station Deal with a Dhemon Avari Nyx Marks of Admar Haldis Imperium
And here is the rest of her list [check her web, she brings stuff out very rapidly]:
Burning Ceres Blood Proxy An Honoured Wife Gift of Wyora
Flicker Scorcher Minder Healer Spinner **Ties into the Sector Guard before Imperial Guard
Grape and Gravity Going Under Draining Jayne Terra Form
DNF at 15% , and while I like the characters and I really like the premise, lack of editing and proof reading are just too distracting. For example "The attendant was cute and we made eye contact. I suddenly wanted to be out of his site." Some sentences are unnecessarily short, and others go on for days with no punctuation. Some are just confusing, as when Alaw is convincing Seval to join him with this attractive proposition: "It will be your choice to be noticed or not. Your own and only choice." Did the writer mean the choice is yours and yours only? As it is, the guy is basically saying this is your only choice. You will have no others. These kind of amateur mistakes take this series off my 'to read' list.
Flicker is the beginning of Terran Times. As everyone knows this is a short story. Astory about a human female trying to find her way in the world or in this case the universe. Seval is a person who can become invisible when she is nervous and because of her strange powers she was an odd ball in her family and decided to try to apply and set her goals outside the universe.
Thanks to her involuntarily flicker and becoming invisible that she caught the interest of the recruiter when she just disappeared on screen yet there was still heat signature that her life changed.
This was a fun quick read. The heroine was shy at first but become a very independent woman and brave (well if you have a job protecting people you would be one) she became fierce when she tried to protect her partner. Recommend to all.
Having just caught up with Tales of the Citadel and really enjoyed those. I'm starting this series with some expectations.
This first installment with "Terrans" in space wasn't too bad. It's going to be interesting to see what Ms Grace comes up with as super-powers for the Earthlings. Invisibility as a power is pretty cool to start.
