Fishing Key West and The Lower Keys
Fishing Key West and The Lower Keys is a non fiction fishing book about all the various types of fish and how to catch different species using many different techniques. This book caught my attention because I am a huge fishing fan and I love learning about how to improve my fishing skills by catching the most trophy game fish swimming in lakes, ponds, rivers, or the ocean. This book exceeded my expectations because the info helped me learn new tactics to catch saltwater fish. I can make personal connections to the book because for starters, I fish all of the time, my dad and I own a boat that we take out all the time, and lastly I connected with this book because I have been to the keys and catch some species mentioned in the book. There were charts, tables, and graphs in the book that showed when it the best time to catch the species your targeting. For example, “For species by month for offshore fishing, the best time to hook up with an Amberjack is during the spring and summer months. May and march are the best times to land a giant AJ” (Conway 11). Even though this is just one species out of hundreds, this book produces newly found knowledge to me, that will help my fishing successes. I mainly do inshore fishing, and this book gave me tips and tricks to land trout, redfish, and snook. For wreck fishing, this book helped me learn tactics for grouper and snapper fishing. Also tips like what size weights to use or different line types. This book is great for all ages and I would recommend this book to a couple different groups of people. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fishing, fishing captains to help improve their skills, and marine biologists to understand different fish species in order to maybe track a species or migration. On the other hand I wouldn't recommend this book to people outside of the marine bio community because to some, this topic of interest can be somewhat boring and hard to learn. All around I enjoyed learned about sea life. Plus all the different species I hope to catch in the future.
