YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO READ THIS! That was SPECTACULAR! I LOVED every part of this prequel in the Dragon Lore series. I love the blend of ancient and modern Celtic and other culture's gods/goddesses and mythology. There certainly are the most fascinating secrets in the past and present Highlands!! I'm extremely excited to see where best selling author Ann Gimpel takes this story! If you've not gotten your self ensorcelled in Ann Gimpel's magical storytelling and worlds then you absolutely should ASAP! Because this my fellow book worms is just one of many!

Arianrhod (or Arian), Celtic Virgin Hunter Goddess, goes a long for a break in boredom of thousands of year's worth of Immortality. "The Celtic Champion"
This is truly stunning Paranormal Romance. The story line is amazing and the characters are awesome. Angus is a Champion for the celtics. His first memories are when the god of the dead dragged him from a time-travel portal at the age of fifteen. His task this time is to meet with a dragon. I love books that are interesting from the beginning. Ceridwen goddess of the world sent Angus to help Eletea the dragon. Eletea has to find her father a first born dragon who is suppose to be in the Fire mountain. Eletea must find him to clear her name. As she was banished from her home and mate till she can do so. The first dragons can tell if she speaks the truth of why she killed a Mage who was trying to bond with a Dragon Danne who Eletea cared about. If the mage had done so then Danne would have turned to the dark side.
Ceridwen also sent Arianrhod known as the virgin huntress ( virgin ha ) to Fire Mountain to help Angus and Eletea. Only Ceridwen tells her to watch out for Morrigan who wishes revenge on Eletea for killing the mage. When the three get to Fire mountain to meet with the dragon council Danne kidnaps Eletea!. Wow this book is full of suspense,action and steamy hot Romance!. This is a five-star plus book!.

First off, I received this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. That being said, I really liked this 1st book in the Dragon Lore series, Ann Gimpel has started us down a new path filled with Celt dieties, Dragons and a seemingly human male named Angus Shea ( who doesn't know who he is, where or when he comes from, or what type of magic he wields ) . Arianrhod is the "Virgin" Goddess sent to help him find out why dragons are missing from the Scottish Highlands, and to determine if Eletea a young dragoness, murdered another Mage who was set on merging with her egg-mate. As they all embark on this journey, none of them seem to want to be on, things start happening quickly, and all roads seem to lead to black magic, something none of them want to have bond with the Dragons immortality. As things progress Angus and Arianrhod start to realize they have much in common, but is it enough for Arianrhod and Angus to risk leaving the only lives they've known ? Time will tell, as the author has left us with a cliffhanger that you will need to read the book to find out what it is. All in all a really good start to what I think will be a great series.

What a refreshing look into the world of the paranormal. In this series we learn what dragons where really like at the beginning and how they came to be what we read about so much. Ms. Gimpel takes us into the world of paranormal before they came to be known by humans when everything was ruled by the gods, well almost everything.
I really look forward to reading this series and finding out what happens to Arianrhod during her pregnancy living with the selkies. I also can't wait to find out what will happen with her relationship with Angus.
This is going to be a very good series.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It was exciting and very interesting. Unlike anything I've ever read before but in the best possible way. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more in this series.

I didn't find the blurb attached to this book to accurately reflect the story. There was way too much sex and not enough story. As I listened tot he audio edition I found it hard to distinguish the characters as the accents kept changing. Overall, won't bother with the rest of the series.

I highly recommend this series by Ann Gimpel!!
I have just recently found her audiobooks & I quickly became addicted to the tales she weaves. Her worlds are full of action, drama, magic. *Her books are not for the younger crowd as all of them I have bought so far contain many sex scenes.
This series is of destiny, war, dragons, mages, witchcraft, & steaminess all in one. So much to tell & yet I don’t want to ruin it for you. This journey takes us along the travels & battles of many magical beings & their mates across many worlds & dimensions. This was really exciting as the battles became more intense. Loved every bit of it!

Highland Secrets is a great start to a new series. It is an adventure through time trying to solve problems that are occurring through mage dragon pairings. Angus has been assigned the task of determining whether a dragon murdered a mage or killed her in self-defense. What sounds like a simple task grows and grows as more and more issues develop.
I listened to the novel, which is always a great way to go with Celtic gods names. The narrator was wonderful. I was so involved in the story that I didn’t realize it had come to an end.
Definitely worth checking out.

This is technically well written, but I just couldn't get into it. I stopped at 30% because I still didn't care what happened to any of the characters and I still couldn't tell for sure what it was going to be about. I generally like fantasy, and love dragons, but I just couldn't connect with this one. I have read other things by Ann Gimpel that I liked.

Highland Secrets - book 1
Double lives... Secrets... Celts... Priestesses. So many awesome elements wrapped in a new world about DRAGONS. Add kidnapping, mind erasure, non-virgin huntress and this first foray into this new series was enough to make me put aside all else until the last word was read.

Honestly i love this author and anything she writes she just draws you in. This book does leave you wanting way more so it is a cliff but this author is so good she makes you want to buy the next book. cant wait for more

This is the first book in the fantasy series about dragons, dragon shifters, old Celtic gods and mages. The book is short and easy to read, but I wish there were more magic and less sex in it.

'Highland Secrets' is a prequel novella to the Dragon Lore Series by Ann Gimpel, I was given this copy by the author in exchange for an honest review, and WOW, this is something completely different from the typical dragon shifter paranormal romance. It is totally spellbinding and had me hooked from the first page to the last. I just wanted to keep on reading, and I will, as soon as the next book is available.
I love Ann Gimpel's books and all of her series are so different from each other that anything new is an adventure. And this is certainly an adventure, involving a pantheon of Celtic Gods, time travel tunnels which you call with magic and hop off at your destination time and place, like you would use a subway, dragons who live on the planetary equivalent of an active volcano and the dragon shifters aren't actually dragons, but mages who have bonded to individual dragons.
I absolutely loved the two central characters. Angus Shae, who was kidnapped from a time travel tunnel by 'Arawn, Celtic God of the Dead, Revenge and Terror, when he was 15 years old. His memories of his life to that point are gone, he has no idea who he is or where he's from and he has been used by the Celts for assignment after assignment for the last 25 years. He's beyond his breaking point although he's done nothing about it because he's afraid of how the gods will react, but he's desperately lonely and wants a life and family of his own. Arianrhod is the Celtic Goddess of the Moon, Goddess of the Silver Wheel and in order to avoid the unwanted attentions of another God, has styled herself as the Virgin Huntress. Something she's regretted ever since and has forced her to live two separate lives in order to maintain the illusion of the Virgin Huntress identity whilst still having a sex life. These two are quite well matched both in personality and attitude, and build a relationship on honesty and trust which becomes love as they investigate the missing and murdered dragons. A relationship that they must hide from the others at all costs in order to safeguard themselves and..... Jonathan.
I'm not going to give any spoilers. This is a fantastic book that you need to read for yourselves. Like a lot of Ann Gimpel's books it's the first in a series, and intended to be read as a series where each book builds on the one before and as such has only a happy for now type of ending. Despite that, it's worth more than the 5 stars I've given it and I really can't wait for the next one.

I really liked this story. The first book I read by the author was ok, the second better, this one the best to date. They are all different and not in the same series or genre. I don't even know the order for which they came out, but can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this one. There were a few areas that were a little cheesy to me, and definitely a lot of mythical, but it was fun and I got caught up in Angus and Ari's (no way am I going to try to spell her name) story. The only negative for me is that I don't like where they leave off, but am hopeful for a happy ending eventually.
I loved Angus and could fully understand his angst against the Celtic Gods. Taken as a teenager, made to forget his memories of his family and past, and forced to do their bidding in the hopes of getting his memories back, of course he is resentful. However, that doesn't mean he isn't fair nor that he doesn't care about his latest task - to help discover if the death of a magi by a dragon was justified. Although dragons are arrogant and make it difficult to really like them, he does come to care about what happens to young Eletea, the dragon who was banished for killing another dragon's potential bond mate. Ari is also sent to help, but with a side agenda. Several bonded dragons and their mates have disappeared and those that remain are not what they seem. The Celtic Gods want to know if something more insidious is at play and it is up to Ari to determine the truth. What neither expected was the instant attraction they felt for each other, something quite forbidden for her.
The romance develops quickly, but given she is immortal and he isn't a normal human, knowing when you've met the right person probably doesn't require a few years to figure out. The secrets just kept coming. Angus will learn more about his history, Eletea will discover there is more to the bonding issue and her own fate, and Ari takes a leap of faith even if things don't go quite the way she hopes. This was a very good intro to the series and would recommend it to anyone over 18 who liked paranormal books.

Magic - Dragons - Forbidden Love
I was given this book by the author for my honest and true opinion.
Highland secrets is the story of Angus Shea (who can see the truth through visions and magic). The Celtics are higher deities and use Angus for his talents as a seer. Although there is a tenuous connection between Angus and the Celtics, he is recruited by them, to seek the truth regarding the murder of a Mage who was to bond with a Dragon (Danne). A bond which gives immortality to a long lived dragon and abilities to shift into dragon form to the Mage. Arianrhod, a immortal goddess herself was also sent by the Celts to back up Angus.
Traveling through time to rescue Eletea, the dragon accused of killing the mage; Angus and Arianrhod become intimate and a bond grows between them. They manage to rescue Eletea, only to find themselves facing the angry dragons for their part in the death of another dragon while escaping. Sent away from Fire Mountain they search for clues to Angus' origins, since he was abducted by a member of the Celts, when he was a boy and his memories erased.
All in all the storyline was ok. It seemed to be rather sluggish in the beginning and the character build up was a bit tedious too. The end is abrupt, in that you really don’t know if Angus and Ariandrhod end up together or not, leaving you wondering. I won’t give any more of the story away, since there are quite a few plots twists. You are left wondering what will happen to the dragons, where the original dragons (“First Ones”) have gone, what is it that the Mage’s really are trying to accomplish with their bonds to the dragons and of course what happens with Angus and Arianrhod (will they have their HEA). I would have to say that this book ranks somewhere between and 3.5/4 stars, but I think closer to 4. Will I read more, yes I think there is a lot of things happening in the book that I am sure will be followed up on in future tales. Good Author - worth the shot to read. Will definitely read more.

Highland Secrets by Ann Gimpel is an interesting tale where Celtic gods and dragons live together tolerably on Fire Mountain, Scotland. The story revolves around Angus Shea who was captured by the Celtic gods in a time-travel portal when he was only 15 years old. He now serves as the Celts' Man at Arms performing specific tasks assigned to him. Angus is tired of being a champion and wants nothing more than to settle down with a wife and raise a family. However, Angus has no idea where or when "home" is because the Celts wiped his memory and keep dangling his ancestry on a string with "just one more assignment." In truth, the Celts never intend to let him go because he sees visions that foretells the future.
In this book, Angus is tasked with investigating the disappearance of dragon shifters from the Scottish Highlands. Along his journey, he meets Arianrhod, the Celtic "virgin huntress," who helps Angus find the truth about what's happening to the dragons. In true romance fashion, there is an instant attractions between Angus and Arianrhod, despite his hatred of the Celts and her desire for a solitary life (or at least it was until she met Angus). After they give in to their base desires they must keep their love for each other a secret or else she will lose her immortality.
Apparently this is a prequel to the Dragon Lore series, which I've never read. Not being acquainted with the series, I think the author did a good job in setting the foundation well and it makes me want to brush up on my Celtic mythology. The writing also reminds me a bit of Christine Feehan's "Dark" Carpathian novels, with its blend of sexual desire (and many descriptive sex scenes) with history of an ancient race.
I listed to the Audible version of the story narrated by A. W. Miller, who did a great job. He provided differing voices for each character and is easy to listen to. I'd listen to another one of his narrations any day. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Apparently this is a prequel to the Dragon Lore series, which I've never read. Not being acquainted with the series, I think the author did a good job in setting the foundation well and it makes me want to brush up on my Celtic mythology. The writing also reminds me a bit of Christine Feehan's "Dark" Carpathian novels, with its blend of sexual desire (and many descriptive sex scenes) with history of an ancient race.
I listed to the Audible version of the story narrated by A. W. Miller, who did a great job. He provided differing voices for each character and is easy to listen to. I'd listen to another one of his narrations any day. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

I received a copy of Highland Secrets (Dragon Lore Series Prequel) in exchange for an honest review. Right up front, I haven’t read many paranormal stories with dragon shifters (or any kind of shifters) yet and I have to admit I was agreeably surprised by this one. Not only does it have the expected paranormal elements but it also delves into history and Celtic mythology, which is a topic that has always interested me.
In short, Angus Shea, a young man who was kidnapped in his teens by the Celts gods and does their bidding is sent on a mission to accompany Eletea – a she-dragon who has been accused of murdering another dragon’s potential mate – and is on her way to the Fire Mountain, where she will be judged. Arianrhod – the “Virgin” Huntress Goddess – who is a virgin only in name – is on a mission of her own pertaining to missing dragons and dragon shifters. Following a series of events, Angus and Arianrhod team up and sparks fly. There is great chemistry between the two of them that keeps things interesting throughout.
I am not going to write a whole synopsis as people only have to read the blurb and I don’t want to give away any spoilers but I’ll say this: Angus and Arianrhod are perfect for each other, the Selkies we meet at the beginning and at the end are wonderful and I’ve absolutely loved Eletea, the she-dragon who sets things into motion, so to speak.
The story was a little bit slow to start with but once it got going, boy, I was in for an interesting ride – imagine how fun it was to meet Gods and Goddesses such as Ceridwen, Arianrhod, and Gwydion among others and get to know interesting main and secondary characters. This prequel for Ann’s Dragon Lore Series certainly makes me want to read the rest of the books in this series. If you want a different twist on dragon shifters and dragons this is the book to read. This is a strong 4,5 stars for me.

Highland Secrets: Dragon Lore Prequel The Story of Angus and Arianrhod
This is an amazing story by Ann Gimpel!!! The story of Angus Shea and immortal goddess Arianrhod, the virgin huntress.
Angus and Arianrhod are sent out on a mission to find out the truth about problem with the dragons in the area. Dragon shifters have been going missing, and it seems some have been turning evil. One dragon Eletea is being sent to Fire Mountain the dragon stronghold to find one of the first dragons to be judged. She killed another dragons potential mate, and they will judge her to see why. Eletea claims that she did it because the mage was evil, and wanted to hurt her friend. The first dragons are able to judge motives and see. Angus accompanies her, as if they are not there he can see the truth in his dreams.
Arianrhod goes to meet them as well as she is looking into the missing dragon shifters, and the dragon shifters causing problems with the dragons. What she is also looking for is time away from the prying eyes of her kin. What they don't know is she does not take the "virgin" part of her virigin huntress title too seriously. That is something they can never know about though if she wants to stay in her role in the Parthenon.
When Arianrhod and Angus meet up to sort out the dragon problem what they don't expect is an explosive chemistry. Especially as Angus thinks she is the virgin huntress, and she does not know him well enough to trust him, and he hates her brotherhood for kidnapping him when he was young. Neither can seem to fight the attraction however as they go through one dangerous situation after the next. The surprises keep popping up as well.
This book will keep you in your toes and flipping through the pages unable to put it down!!!

I was very lucky to be gifted a copy of ‘Highland Secrets’, the prequel for the Dragon Lore series for an honest review. I LOVED it. :)
The story had me hooked from the start and I loved the characters. The book has the mix of Dragons, Gods, Mage and Selkie’s as the main characters.
I felt for Angus and his not knowing his own origins, those memories blocked by the Gods. Having to work for the Celtic Gods as their lackey, for want of a better description. :)
Angus just wants to know his background, having struggled for centuries with no firm answers from those who controlled him. Angus is a Seer, but also wields his own kind of magic. He is sent on a journey along with a Celtic Goddess - Arianrhod, the virgin huntress from Celtic mythology. Virgin, she is not. ;)
They have to work together and this story follows that journey and their ever growing relationship. It had me up and down with emotions at times, willing them to find some kind of HEA.
You the readers will have to read all in this series to come, for that to be revealed. :) There were plenty of moments of humour and excitement that had me on edge, constantly willing for events to unfold. I have to say I guessed Morrigan’s part in this by the first third of the book, but you have to read it all to finally know how it all plays out.
It’s a story that has many facets, characters you will either love or hate, but all integral to the depth of the book. It is written so well, that it just flows. I started reading soon after receiving and had to read to completion; now hungry for the next book to read. And will after a short refreshment break. :)
So my thanks again for copies to read and review. With my own origins in the Celtic world, it was a treasure to be immersed in this new world of characters and their journeys.

This book is the gateway to a fascinating world in which celtic mythology and magic collide. Imagine you live in a world where Celtic gods exist and can easily, and seemingly often, interact with general human life. Add into that dragons who can bond with humans to share immortality and power as well as the possibility of traveling through time and there is a wealth of possibilities. It's these possibilities and the world that is set up that is so intriguing. The characters are interesting and it's great getting learn about the world with a leading man who is shrouded in mystery. Since he doesn't know who he is, we get to discover how things work. The bond between dragons and their mages has been tainted and the Celtic goddess of the hunt and moon, Arianrhod, is sent to investigate. At the same time, a dragon is facing banishment for killing a mage and a man with no past but the ability to see the truth, Angus, is sent to help discern what happened. When Angus and Arianrhod find that their missions are entangled, they find themselves walking down a path destined long ago that could either destroy them both or give them their wildest dreams.
The love story between the two characters is not the strongest pull for me. Instead it was the abilities of the characters and the world the story took place in. The culture of the dragons as well as the interplay between the celtic pantheon. The depth in these two areas is only enhanced by the natural and relatable reactions of the lead characters. I can't wait to read more about these characters and see where the overall story goes!!

Enticing, Mysterious, Deception, Intrigue……. WOW!
I was given an ARC copy for an honest review so here goes. This was the first book I had read from Ann Gimpel and I will say that she “Nailed It”. I’ve read several other dragon stories and this one has a different spin on it. The author pulls you into the world filled with dragons, time travel, gods and magic. You are immersed from beginning to end. The main characters Angus and Arianrhod’s origins bring you in almost immediately leaving you needing to continue reading hoping that they find their heart and soul desires. Angus having his past memories taken away for the last 25 years, not knowing who he is or exactly what he is or why he’s been chosen as a weapon for the gods to do their bidding longs for a love, family and a simple life but is afraid to question the gods for fear of what they might do to him…. Arianrhod the Celtic Goddess of the Moon, Goddess of the Silver Wheel and presenting herself as the Virgin Huntress to hide from the unwanted attention of another God now regrets her choice as she tries to live a double life. When our two characters meet their attraction goes beyond the physical and their growing need for each other hampers their assignment and their safety.
Being of Irish decent (1/3) using the Celtic talk was unique and I enjoyed it. This prequel “Highland Secret’s” for the Dragon Lore series is a fantastic read. I LOVE IT and so WILL YOU!! This will not be the only book I read from this author – not by a long shot… GET IT, ENJOY IT and you too will LOVE IT.

Tired of working for the Celtic Gods as their "go-to magical boy", Angus would love to stop working for them, but as they wiped his memories when he was a teen, he really has nowhere else to go anyway. She has been sent by Ceridwen to delve deeper into the renegade dragon shifter problem. An instant attraction between Angus and Arianrhod is going to cause huge problems for them both, especially if Arianrhod reveals the secrets of the Pantheon, who would turn on her in a minute if they found out about her own secrets. Highland Secrets is an exciting story. From beginning to end, with dragons and gods, selkies and magical humans, Ann Gimpel weaves a fantastical story in her usual well-written, fluid style. We follow Angus and Arianrhod's journey to find his roots, solve the dragon shifter problem and keep Eletea, and themselves, from being killed along the way. Can their forbidden love conquer seemingly insurmountable odds? As a prequel, Highland Secrets was a magnificent read, and I am crazily excited for the next one.

This is a prequel to Ann Gimpel's Dragon Lore series. We meet Angus Shea as he is cavorting off the coast of Ireland with Selkies. He has been tasked by some of the Celtic gods to investigate why dragon shifters are disappearing from the Scottish Highlands. He clearly is not happy to do their bidding though that is all he has known. He was taken as a child and doesn't know anything of his past or even when in time he is originally from. Is Angus a simple human dragged into their world or is there more to him than meets the eye?
Also sent to investigate this dragon problem is Arianrhod who is a Celtic goddess and legendary "virgin" huntress. She meets up with Angus at the dragons home world at Fire Mountain. The dragons send these two on their own quest as well. What dark forces are at work? And just who is involved in the disappearances of the dragons and what is their ultimate goal? Sparks fly in more ways than one in this story.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of Highland Secrets (Dragon Lore Book 1, The Prequel. I really enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. This is a story about ancient and modern celtic mythology with the interaction of some of the gods and goddesses, along with dragon shifters and Angus Shea. Angus's identity was stolen from him when he was a child. To get it back he is given jobs by the gods/goddess with a promise that after they feel he has paid his dues he will get his memory back. While working with the Celtic Goddess, Arianrhood, the Virgin Hunter, he discovers who he is and his family. They have been partnered to solve the disappearance of the dragon shifters. They are attracted to each other, will they give in to this attraction or not. Ann's ability to bring her story to life through her description of the people, places and events makes the story more enjoyable. Ann has done an excellent job with Book 1, the Prequel of Highland Secrets. I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I love myths and legends. This book features wonderful stories about dragons and goddesses and those that serve them. It is a great read and I look forward to reading more books in the series.
We are introduced to Angus in the beginning of the story. He is very tired of being used by the Celts who have hidden his past from him. Angus is lonely with little contact with others except for some selkies. He has no idea that a mission to investigate the killing of a dragon will lead to those lost memories and someone to love.
Arianrhod is a Celtic goddess who is supposed to remain chaste and be a virgin. She takes on lovers infrequently and hides those relationships to protect her position. Angus is a temptation she can't resist. They are destined to be together.
They have an adventure and mystery to solve in order to complete their assignment. They want to be together but don't know how that can happen without causing major damage to Arianrhod's reputation. There are villains out to harm them and others willing to assist in any way they can. I am eager to see what the future has in store for this couple.
