Surviving Sybil: My Quest for Justice

Rate this book
Roberta is enjoying a wonderful career in a government job she loves. Her job performance ratings have always been high - and life is good until… She gets a new boss, Sybil, with different ideas about Roberta … she wants her gone! Roberta’s new boss berates her in front of her peers, unfairly criticizes her job performance and resorts to yelling and screaming to beat her down. She treats Roberta differently than her other employees. Roberta can do nothing to please her. A job that once brought Roberta joy - now makes her both physically and emotionally ill. As their marriage begins to suffer, Roberta’s husband convinces Roberta she won’t survive the debilitating effects of such harassment at work. He calls upon his distant legal training and helps Roberta file an EEOC complaint of discrimination. Husband and wife embark on the daunting, David and Goliath task of fighting the federal government to remedy such blatant injustice. Unbelievably, the government choses to defend Sybil - despite her obvious disparate treatment of Roberta. The action is riveting and fast-paced. Readers will find themselves rooting for the underdog in this inspirational tale of balancing work and marriage. Can one lone woman really stand up to the powerful forces of the federal government? Will this exhaustive effort strengthen or weaken her marriage? Surviving Sybil is based upon true events. It depicts the courage Roberta needed to embrace such an uphill battle - and describes the steps she took to protect her job, her health and her marriage - against all odds. From one satisfied “ Amazon came today and left your book. I finished it in one sitting! It is riveting. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! It is wonderfully written. Your courage in fighting the system was extraordinary and so admirable .”

Roberta Conner grew up on a farm in Western Minnesota. She married a US career Air Force Officer and as a result traveled extensively. She had a 30-year career with the Federal Government - eventually retiring to the Coachella Valley in Southern California. She has one son and two college-age granddaughters - and is happily married to Jim.

During 2021 many of her friends and family were emotionally down and out due to Covid. Friends and family alike encouraged her to begin telling her stories as she always made people laugh. That was the birth of the Roberta Raves website which ultimately led to her publishing the book by the same name. That book, Roberta Raves: Stories of Everyday Life Told with Humor, Insight and Compassion is available on Amazon in Kindle eBook, Paperback - and soon to be available - Audiobook versions.

Roberta is grateful for the strong support of friends and family and the many subscribers to her free online blog - and gave her invaluable feedback as the weeks progressed. For some very humorous and current Roberta Raves - please visit her website at: www.RobertaRaves.com.

Roberta's second book - Surviving Sybil: My Quest for Justice - is now available on Amazon in Kindle eBook, Paperback and Hardcover. This compelling new book tells the story of the last four years of her employment at the IRS. Her new female boss made work life horrific for Roberta - eventually leading to a complaint of discrimination filed - with the strong support of her husband - with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The pace of Surviving Sybil is fast - and the drama engaging - in this riveting new book.

Readers who enjoyed Roberta's humor in Roberta Raves will recognize that same inherent - but dormant - sense of humor even in the much more serious story in Surviving Sybil. To stay up to date with Roberta's activities visit her website at: www.RobertaRaves.com.
