Each title in this award-winning series offers an exquisite region-by-region taste tour filled with culinary specialties and surprises. Included in each large-format volume are gorgeous food and landscape photographs.
One of my go-to cookbooks when I want something fresh, contemporary, and reliably good. This series has some great books, and I think this is one of the best.

For those of you who don't know about this series of books, they're really more combination cooking/travel/photography coffee table books than they are typical cookbooks; they're oversized and, thus, are rather cumbersome in the kitchen. The books are divided into sections by region, and each section includes writeups about the area and the local cuisine there, stunning photography and great recipes.
I'm honestly a bit weird in that I love reading cookbooks, but rarely try to make anything in them, so I haven't actually tried any of the recipes included here (thought they look delicious). If you're hoping for a traditional cookbook on California cuisine, you should probably look elsewhere, as the size and arrangement of this book will make it difficult to use practically in the kitchen. But if you're someone who loves travel writing, food and great photography, you won't be disappointed.
