Decerto acharão estranho eu ter pegado neste livro!? Mas havia uma razão muito forte para o fazer, e feitas as contas não me arrependi.

"A Rosa do Adro", escrito por Manuel Maria Rodrigues, foi publicado originalmente em 1870 e adaptado ao cinema duas vezes: em 1919 por George Pallu (um dos primeiríssimos filmes produzidos em Portugal) e em 1938 por Chianca de Garcia (o mesmo realizador d'"A Aldeia da Roupa Branca").

Não aspira a grandes pretensões intelectuais, nem o conteúdo traz nada de surpree

Encontra Rosa a momentânea lucidez por entre as negras lágrimas que se lhe fazem vergar o peito. Luz tépida de uma aposta certa no infortúnio, raríssima flor perfumada pelo sol e os encantos da juventude, ela é como tantas houve. Uma estória de província, donzela órfã de pai e mãe, desprevenida para o amor, sedutora sem o saber, ou até que o sabe, qual espiguinha que doura aqueles campos minhotos. “A Rosa do Adro” is a portuguese classic that tells us the story of a man and a woman and their tragic romance. As many of his contemporaries, we can find an imposition of the personal character of the author thorough the book; however, and contrarily to these same contemporaries, we verify a care by the author in preserving a nice and easy reading, not letting himself give in to some whims in establishing his own individuality.
