It provides us with a method for training individuals in basic communication skills that is equally applicable to communities, schools, business environments, therapeutic groups or to family systems. Council is a practice of open, heartfelt expression and attentive, empathic listening. It is a great ally in introducing meaningful change in our institutions and family relationships. Council is effective for those who want to move from a hierarchical structure to a partnership model where initiative, responsibility and leadership are shared. Through deepening trust, council supports the clarification of values, co-visioning, and community building.

This is a most remarkable and inspiring book for all those involved with promoting deep communication in groups, communities, organisations, schools and families. Technical and experiential details are provided through a variety of practices aimed at creating deep intimacy, empathy and attentive listening, paving the way for honourable relationships and inspired decision-making. The book also addresses conflict resolution and reconciliation, offering very effective tools, derived from ancient traditions, wisely integrated with our contemporary reality.

This book beautifully reflects the heart, history, and stucture of Council. Council is a form, a way to engage in authentic communication and heartful sharing. The form of Council comes from indigenous peoples of North America and has roots to many other cultures around the world. Council can be used in groups, for couples, and is spreading quickly into public and private school systems, helping to teach children and teenagers how to listen and speak from the heart.
