A long-running heatwave has been dominating the news for weeks, and a state of lethargy is affecting everyone - not least blind ex-policewoman Naomi Blake, who is experiencing a restless dissatisfaction with life in general.
One ordinary Monday Naomi and her friends Harry and Patrick are in a high-street bank when an armed gang storm the building and take it hostage.
Naomi - particularly vulnerable because of her lack of sight - is one of the captives.
During the next few days, tensions rise as the situation grows fraught with danger, and the extreme heat intensifies…
However, under the tight control of an unpredictable and volatile persecutor, Ted Harper, the heat is the least of Naomi’s worries…
She knows this man. Knows who and what he was and the knowledge does nothing to reassure her…
Third book in the Naomi Blake series starts out ok but again with Adams doesn't always engage and is a struggle to get through, even though it is not overly long. I am trying to think what it is about Adams books that I struggle with and I haven't found an answer yet.
This was a nail-biting story where robbers hold customers and staff hostage in a bank...Naomi, Napoleon, Patrick and Harry are part of the captives.
Well-written and fast-paced, this British crime drama is filled with action, tension and suspense. The characters suited the plot and there was a great sense of place...I could almost feel the claustrophobia.
A botched bank raid leads to a dangerous hostage situation in the middle of a summer heatwave.
This is a tightly-plotted police procedural with strong, well-drawn characters. Sadly it suffers from a "spell-check proof read" with lots of homophones and wrongly used words. Punctuation is also a bit slapdash in places.
If you can look beyond the flaws there's a good story beneath.
