The One Year Book of Inspiration for Girlfriends: Juggling Not-So-Perfect, Often-Crazy, but Gloriously Real Lives

Rate this book
If you’re living a perfect, charmed life . . . well, then this book isn’t for you. But if, like the rest of us, you are at times broken, confused, lonely, or scared―if you’re struggling with problems that you think “good Christians” don’t have―then welcome, girlfriend, and pull up a chair! This quirky, friendly, and gut-honest devotional comes straight from the heart of Ellen Miller (CEO, marketing executive, mom, and unapologetic “glorious mess”). Despite the serious struggles she’s faced, Ellen today lives a life of profound joy, and The One Year Book of Inspiration for Girlfriends contains 365 days’ worth of the principles and philosophies that have gotten her there. There’s no subject she’s afraid to tackle! Her quick, daily doses of encouragement will make you laugh, give you something to look forward to, help you to stay (somewhat!) sane . . . and remind you that you’re never alone.

Ellen Miller is passionate about life balance. Why? Because she knows from experience the miserable feeling we have when we're "off our game" and the joy we can get from everyday life when we're hitting on all cylinders. Her motto is: "You can have it all - just not every day." Professionally, Ellen is a working gal. She served as a corporate officer for a Fortune 500 company while raising a family. She founded and now serves as the visionary for Insider Marketing, a technology marketing firm. Since 1994, Insider has had the pleasure of marketing some of the biggest brands in the technology marketplace. But Ellen believes that her profession describes only a third of who she really is. Personally, Ellen shares her life with her husband, Steve; their grown children; and their first grandchild. She's not one to take this blessing of a sweet family for granted. But probably the most defining thing about Ellen is her purpose. In this life stage, Ellen has felt a calling to be an encouragement to other women of all walks of life. Ellen believes that a fulfilled, content woman is vital to our society; our workforce; and, most important, to our families. A woman who purposefully chooses to live intentionally makes for a productive employee, a strong marriage partner, and a positive role-modeling mother. Her desire is to inspire confidence and motivate women to live to their full potential - with uncommon joy - for Christ.

While this book was good to help keep me focused on godly things throughout a very busy year, I was not overly impressed. The book is billed as a book for women whose lives are imperfect and offers encouragement and inspiration to women. I suppose that is true in some ways but it really should be marketed to married women and mothers. As a single woman, there were many days where finding application to my own life was difficult as the lessons revolved around how to treat a spouse and how to raise godly children... all in all it kinda left me feeling sad and lonely. However, if you are married and / or a mother, I think there would be plenty of tidbits that you may find encouraging and inspirational :)

This book changed my life! Although it is supposed to be a one year book, I am on year three of enjoying it. As life ebbs and flows, I am amazed at how this books speaks to me in different ways. I highly recommend it for any woman seeking personal and spiritual growth.

Enjoyed the book. Was easy to read in "chunks" when the daily readings didn't fit into my life.
