Wow! I didn't expect this kind of turn, the first book was young adult fiction, but Capture of the Defiance is a full on spy thriller with hints of romance! I don't normally enjoy spy thrillers since I feel like it doesn't make any sense and life doesn't work the way spy thrillers are written about. There is a lot I think was cliche and unrealistic in my opinion, but I was surprised how I enjoyed this book.

This is the second book in this new/young adult series. Six years have gone by and we don't really need every detail of Makayla, Tyrell and Brian's lives in those years for this to work. Being curious, I would like a short story for each but basically they spent these years on furthering education and careers. Henry and Makayla are put into a life threatening situation, through no fault of their own. The outcome has the potential to place thousands in danger.

It amazes me that S.E. Smith can cross genre's so successfully. This is a good international type thriller-suspense with nothing paranormal and I am going to be waiting for the next book.

Not quite my cup of tea but a good read.
Love this author but did not read the first book as it was young adult and not my genre.
Found this to be interesting and kept my attention even though there seemed to be some reviewing of things that happened in book 1.
Will be looking forward to the next book.

I like S.E. Smith's writing. This was out of her usual venue. YA for the first book in series and now spy thriller.

I liked the first book in the series much more than this one. It was a little confusing, but still enjoyable. It seems like a cliff hanger at the end, but I admit to confusion.

Awesome Book
In the first book Makayla was a teenager, stealing her grandfather's sailboat to get back home to her mother and friends. In this book she is an adult, working on her doctorate in marine biology. She has just flown in to Hong Kong to meet her grandfather and continue with him on his voyage around the world. But after just a day, her grandfather is kidnapped. Now Makayla is working against the clock with some old friends and new friends to find her grandfather before it is too late. I loved this book. It was fast paced with action and wonderful characters.
