Thunderbird 1 and Thunderbird 2 are in Peru, performing rescue operations after an earthquake, when their mission parameters suddenly expand. Lady Penelope was in-country as well and it appears she's been kidnapped by a criminal gang who are looking for an ancient Inca emerald mind.

As Scott Tracy (pilot of Thunderbird 1) and Parker (Penelope's ex-con butler) pursue the crooks, they in turn are pursued by the arch-criminal The Hood, who is determined to get his hands on some emeralds for himself.

It's a fun book. I felt one important aspect to the ending was anti-climactic, but the story mostly works. Scott, Parker and Penelope all get chances to demonstrate their specific skills and the hunt for the Inca mine unfolds logically.

I've got the Titan Books print from the 1990, and considering it was written in the 1960s, the book holds up fantastically well.

It's a curious book, it seems to be written aimed at about 10-year-olds, and is simultaneously rather naïve compared to the storylines of contemporary books aimed at that age group, and more sophisticated, especially in vocabulary.

Anderson Entertainment have a reprint of this book in the works, and I have already pre-ordered my copy of the audiobook. It'll be a good listen on the way to work in the wee small hours!

While the story still has issues (it is, after all, based on a book from a different decade and I've already stated my feelings on that in my other review), it is MUCH better than the previous offering. Classic adventure and action. No silly alien enemies.

One of the best books in the world

The book was amazing. I loved it the part when Scott dived down because the ceiling in the river was getting lower and lower. It was very exciting! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. (Rory, age 7)

Didn’t really enjoy this very much. The story feels very dated and I was disappointed that it didn’t feature Virgil as much as I had expected (since Thunderbird 2 is featured so prominently on the cover).

Fun read

Fun read. Familiar characters in new settings. Story continues the series in the style we are used to from the TV shows.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a great role for Parker as he had a lot to do.

Great fun!

It's a shame in a way that this is the 'old' international rescue, as Kayo would just love to be involved in these adventures! And it seems that Virgil is right, Scott is having all the fun.
