That loveable little bear called Paddington goes to the bakers to pick up his supply of buns and he meets his best friend Mr Gruber who has closed his shop for the day and who decides that it is about time that he, his children and Paddington should have a day out.

Paddington rushes back to 32 Windsor Gardens and, with the help of housekeeper Mrs Bird, makes a whole host of marmalade sandwiches (not surprising is it?). And very soon thereafter Mr Gruber, Jonathan, Judy and Paddington are on their way to a surprise destination.

It turns out to be the Tower of London and Paddington declares that he has never seen anything so big. The security guard who checks their baggage also says the same when he sees Paddington's sandwich box filled to the brim with marmalade sandwiches.

Fortunately the guard does not find Paddington's secret compartment, which is also full of those sandwiches. But a beefeater soon does as one of them falls onto his shoes; Paddington tells him that it will make a change from eating beef sandwiches!

They visit the Crown Jewels and see the Imperial Crown of India, which Mr Gruber tells Paddington the Queen never uses. Paddington is not surprised for he says that there is nowhere to keep her sandwiches in it and that she should have a hat like his.

Ready for some food, they go to the Ravens tea house where Paddington begins on his marmalade sandwiches and the ravens join in by picking up the bits that Paddington drops on the floor. Then the beefeater that Paddington had met earlier arrives with an important looking gentleman.

Paddington's knees turn to jelly for he thinks he is in trouble. But he is not as he is presented with a free pass to visit the Tower anytime he wishes; the management feel that the ravens liking for his marmalade sandwiches will help to keep them at the Tower and ensure that the legend that says that if the ravens leave the Tower it will fall down from coming into effect.

Paddington and friends then retire but not before Paddington shares the remaining marmalade sandwiches with his friends the ravens … for after all he wants to ensure that the Tower does not fall down before his next visit.

This is a larger sized and fully illustrated book for children and the young at heart adult to read. The illustrations are so cute and fun to look at which was my motivation for reading them in the first place! Paddington is adorable in this series of books for kids who are advancing with their reading.

Mr Gruber decides to take Paddington, Jonathan and Judy to the Tower of London as Paddington has never been. Armed with his marmalade sandwiches, Paddington becomes a bit fearful of why the Tower ravens have taken such an interest in him!

This is my third Paddington book review of the year, having read two variations of Paddington's initial title as well as an unreviewed audiobook collection by Stephen Fry. The Stephen Fry collection I listened to was 'A Bear Called Paddington' and didn't include this particular title.

The book itself is made up of illustrations by Fred Banbery, which I'm not the biggest fan of, with a big exception for Paddington, the bear himself. His characterisation in these pictures are just so spot-on. He looks like a small, cuddly bear, while also fitting into the human surroundings, without feeling peculiar or out-of-place.

Similarly, to the first book of the series, I feel that Bond expresses his love for London, this time exploring one of its most famous landmarks, the great tower. Having gone on quite a few visits to London as a child, I am quite familiar with Beefeaters and the importance of ravens. It was quite nostalgic to think that I was once in the same position as Paddington, meeting both for the first time.

I never got into Paddington as kid, which is a shame. On the other hand, I'm getting to enjoy him now - and maybe even more so than I would have when I was younger.

Paddington visits the Tower of London, a suitcase full of marmalade sandwiches in tow. A fun read with some super-cute illustrations.

So the MiL went to London and brought back a plush Paddington doll, a Paddington Bear chapter book, and this picture book for the ankle-biter.

Really, this is a tourist or local's book about the Tower of London. Paddington visits the tower, sees some ravens and the crown jewels, learns there was once a menagerie, and is invited back. Nice sweet, but you really ought to have been there.

A nice book of Paddington including marmalade sandwiches and Mr Gruber but... doesn't really teach an outsider that much and leaves the listener a little lost.

Paddington at the Tower
Mr. Gruber decides to surprise Paddington with seeing some famous sites (including a tower in London). But when he gets there, he attracts the attention of some flighty friends. But do they love him for him or for his marmalade sandwiches?

My Thoughts:
Not much to say about this one. It was short. The illustrations were better than the chapter book but not as good as the one I read where he starts a garden. I can relate to this plot because I remember one time I was at a (park maybe) and a bunch of birds start following me and my boyfriend (at the time) because he was throwing bread at them, and it freaked me out and I tried to hide behind me and he laughed his head off at me because he thought it was hilarious! Paddington was A LOT braver than I was. I give him that.

Paddington goes on a trip to the tower of London with his red hat and suitcase of sandwiches. There he meets a beefeater, a raven, and learns about the tower. It's a lovely lighthearted book with some good play on words and little jokes.

I would use it in class as an introduction to London or the tower, and maybe ask the children to imagine if Paddington went to a local attraction to them to create a new book.
