This is one the Winnie-the-Pooh counting books from the collection of concepts books. The book includes familiar characters from the Miline classics, such has Eeyore, Piglet, Christopher Robin and of course Pooh. This book is obviously for the younger readers. I would say preschool age children would benefit the most from a book like this. What sets this counting book apart from others is that is incorporates the classic Winnie-the-Pooh characters. One of the insights I got out of my recent reading about parenting and gender is that parents tend to talk less about numbers and numeracy with baby girls (just like parents tend to talk less overall to baby boys). This is something I'm keeping in mind as we begin to borrow books from the library for our month old daughter - it's easy to include books which include mathematical concepts and increasing this kind of talk can have a big impact on mathematical confidence down the track.

Unlike other "inspired by" concept books I've seen, this one does the original justice. (Aletheia's review: "Fortunately I had discovered my Q-tips in time to gently tap them on each page we read.")
