Another great volume. But that's not a shock at this point! This volume is special because we really get a glimpse into who Keiichi is. Up until this point, he's seemed rather stoic and unfazed by anything. He's been focused on building Yura's career and making her a bigger star than her mother, and seems to have her best interests at heart. For the most part, I think that's still true. But it is an interesting development to see that Keiichi is starting to have feelings for Yura. Though I think he is right when he says Yura really needs to focus on her work, and Q-ta needs to leave her alone for a while, it's also true that he's not being altogether altruistic in insisting that they don't communicate with each other. The important thing seems to be, though, that Keiichi really wants to Yura succeed, and in the end, he will do anything he can to help her with that.

So, what about Q-ta? It's clear that he still thinks of her in relationship to her father, and that worries Yura, but she still wants to be with him. Also, it is frustrating how unsupportive Q-ta is of Yura's career. Maybe it's supposed to be sweet that he wants her to spend all her time with him, that he wishes she had quit the commercial so that no one else knew how adorable she was but him. But in reality, it's just selfish of him - Q-ta doesn't really see Yura's dreams and goals, he just seems how she fits into his own life. He wants to secure his position in her eyes - to make sure that he is her favorite. And with the hugs and the kisses, of course he is. How can the others compare? Neither Haruka or Keiichi are that aggressive towards her. Wanting her to lie to her manager, having her sneak away, stealing her away for a night - it might seem romantic, but in reality it feels more controlling. And Yura goes along with it, because she is swept up in his charm and charisma.

While Q-ta and Keiichi are having this power struggle over Yura's life and loyalty, Haruka seems to bumble along in his affection for her, not really paying attention to the drama. He is bummed when Yura can't make it to day 2 of his concert, and disappointed when she eventually makes it home with Q-ta. But for the most part, in this volume, we don't see him that much. He's so busy with work, he doesn't have time to worry about Yura's feelings for Q-ta or anyone else.

Yura herself in this volume seems to spend an equal amount of time focusing on work and focusing on boys. She is indeed cast in Todo's new primetime drama which will air at the same time as her mother's. Her noodle commercials are airing and print ads are everywhere - she is becoming quite well known. Her co-stars respect her, and she's really doing a fantastic job for how new she is to the scene. Running into her mother was a shock, but Yura remained strong and insistent that she would become an actress, despite her mother's insults and put downs. That woman is seriously horrible. I'm only disappointed in Yura in regards to her weakness for Q-ta. She shouldn't lie those she trusts, and she shouldn't trust anyone who asks her to lie. Also, I'm really sad that she ditched Nanase's viewing party for a night out with Q-ta. Sure, she didn't know the work he had put in to it, but still, Keiichi specifically told her Nanase was excited. You shouldn't ditch a friend, no matter what.

I loved the extra at the end of this volume - the first episode of Yura's drama, Love Lesson! Seems like it'll be a good story, and I can't wait to see how it develops, too.

I'd like to reiterate that it's not like I hate Q-ta. I think he is a perfectly nice guy, and doesn't wish any harm to Yura. His flaw lies in his self-centeredness, and while he thinks of himself first, he can't be right for Yura.

2020 Read #94

What is up with all the problematic behavior Aihara glorifies in her male love interests? And why do the heroines succumb to lust even though the guys are absolute jerks? I DON’T GET IT. I just fume so much with a series like this. Needless to say, this is more of a hate-read now than I would have initially thought possible...

I was really disappointed in Yura this volume!! Crushes are no reason to treat others in your life poorly!! I want to say just because a character is foolish that that doesn't mean the volume was bad. But in this case its true!

I don't appreciate the choices Yura is making. Does her insecurities from her parent's relationship really have so little hold over her? If the answer is no, then that means her feud with her mother was just a contrivance to get her to enter the entertainment business. Also Q-ta has made no bones about the fact he idolizes her father and actually liked him better than her, that should also play into her insecurities about her parents. In other words her actions aren't matching her backstory.

Keep the protagonist in character! Seeing these flaws makes the stellar first three volumes piss me off. The guys are kept in character very well so to me Yura going off like this is deliberate on the part of the mangaka. So girls make foolish choices, sure, but her parents would make her fear any lover that seems to reflect her relationships with her parents. Her throwing her friendship with Nanase in the wind just makes no sense.

BOTTOM LINE: Disappointing, so disappointing...

So... the girl is going with the boy I don't like. SIGH. And I have mixed feelings about her guardian ??? having feelings for her??? gross?? And he's abusing his power as her guardian to like take out his jealousy? It's creepy and weird.

Again, the plot is fairly lame, and she's so hung up on this useless boy she's not being responsible... :P If it were the other boy she was being distracted by, I'd be all for it. BAHAH. But I am bitter about her life choices.

This boy is so creepy, too...

Boy: Let's take a spontaneous overnight trip!
Girl: I promised I'd be home by 9!!
Boy: Oh. I see. So you don't care about me at all.
Girl: OH NO THAT'S OK I'LL JUST STAY WITH YOU AND NOT TELL ANYONE WHERE I'M GOING!!

Q-ta made me so mad this volume. To not letting her go to celebrate her drama premiere to being mad other people are looking at her. Like are you forgetting you over looked her til now just because she's his idols daughter?

And as always I’m cursing myself for not checking the status of the manga before I started reading it. Well, truth be told, I did check it and thought it was completed, but it appears that the author just dropped the project and here I was having so much fun reading it, especially it was getting somewhere very interesting.

This story is nothing special. However, it held my interest through out the story and I never once wanted to put it down. So haters hate it, but I really enjoyed it and was pissed a lot because apparently the author dropped the project and there have not been any news if she is going to continue it. As I have already mentioned the plot is not all that unique, it’s a crossover of Skip Beat! and Allegro Agitato. However, the only similarities that I have found was that like in Skip beat the story is about acting and it has that small similarity in mother and daughter relationship like in Allegro Agitato. But its not all that escalated. Okay, enough with the whole compassion. I liked the tory a lot. It was fun. Even though I am not a bug fan of harems, I’m series it’s always driving me crazy how the girl gets all that attention while she was a total wallflower for the past years. Doesn’t that piss you off too? But here I was having lots of fun just reading how the guys were coming to terms actually liking Yura. I still have a hard time coping with the choice that Yura made. But then again she fell in love with a wrong guy. And it’s really a pity as the story ends on a cliffhanger and I am so pining for her to end up with Haruka. They would make an awesome couple.

The issue that I want to focus attention today is Yura’s mother. You despise the woman right from the beginning. The way she treats her daughter is awful. And I don’t know if you will think of her differently, but I certainly felt pity towards her when her story is told. She was too vain and even though I do not like how she treats Yura, I still understand her some parts she wanted to be the center of everyone’s attention; her husband’s especially. But the was more in love with his daughter then her, but then again it was understandable. He did marry her only because she was pregnant. She never achieved the love of her husband, but taking it out on Yura was a bit too much.

I guess I confused you too much, but hopefully I did intrigue you so you will read the story and understand what I’m talking about. I’ll go read the story and understand what I’m talking about. I’ll go and whail I the hopes of getting some news from the author. I really want to know how it all ends. It’s not fun just imagining. Enjoy it to its fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below. Especially tell me whom you are rooting for! Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos. Don’t miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!

XOXO

R to L (Japanese Style). Find the courage to become a star! As Yura continues her foray into the glamorous world of acting, she's starting to learn that success is often marred with setbacks and compromises. Can Yura continue growing as an actress while keeping her budding relationships with Q-ta and Haruka in check?

SPOILERS:
Yura is still shocked after hearing Haruka's confession. She lands another job in a big role as the heroine's friend, but with Q-ta on her mind 24/7 Keiichi notices that she becomes distracted, so he takes her phone away. Well, Q-ta surprises Yura later on by showing up in person to see her, which makes Keiichi jealous. Yura did a lot of things that made me frustrated throughout this book, like being too dependent on Q-ta(who is starting to become possessive of her). What she doesn't realize is that Q-ta is pulling her father away from her career, and making her too distracted, which is a bad thing for a rising actress. We got to meet Yura's mom again in this book, and her mom realizes that big competition is headed her way, and surprisingly it's her daughter who's her enemy. I also noticed Keiichi getting jealous of all the guys surrounding Yura, and his feelings are becoming more than a manager's feelings for his client.

Upfront, I will say I hated Hot Gimmick, also by this author. I absolutely loathed the way the men in that book abused and manipulated the female lead who just shook it off and submitted to more unacceptable behavior. So far, Honey Hunt has created a harem of men who all seek to make our female lead Yura their one and only - but their manipulation is so far passive. Although Yura appears to have chosen Q-ta as her prince which leads to delectable scenes of innocent young love, I am hoping this series does not turn dark in the way Hot Gimmick did. I am aware however, that Q-ta's character is suspiciously close to being aggressively controlling.

OK, I'll admit it. Q-Ta is starting to lose his appeal. He comes off as highly manipulative. It seems as though he honestly like Yura, but he also idolizes her dad. Plus, he convinces her to blow off a previous commitment in order to spend time with him and he disrupts her shooting schedule as well as her concentration. He seems to disregard her goal to become a better actress than her mother. Very fishy...

So needless to say, I'm leaning more toward Haruka and Yura.

I like this series. It isn't one of those ones where it's "I gotta know what's gonna happen next," but is enjoyable. Yura continues her attempts to make it in show biz, although very little of that is touched upon in this volume. She becomes recognizable as the noodle girl though. Qta is more prominate in this volume than his brother. Yura's life is further complicated with her manager's control over it.

Q-ta returns from London. He's so emotionally manipulative: he takes his sweet time contacting Yura, and when she decides that she has something better to do with her time than waiting for his text, he returns to the picture and asks her to blatantly sabotage her career to have sweet loving times with him.

Miki Aihara really loves her doormat heroines.

Also, the "Love Lesson" omake is SUPER CREEPY. Totally gave me the heebie-jeebies.

Idiot! Okay, I do like this, but I still think Skip Beat is better! Yura has too much romance in her head, and I don't get to see her transform much. At least in The One, there was even amounts of both. Yura! I can't tell if Q-ta really cares about you or not! He totally seems into you, but hell he's dragging you away! Let him go! Lol. Yura, timid and shy, but relatively okay actor, I wish you'd become a stronger character, I really do! SO I'm going to keep reading just for you

It's a trap Yura! Q-ta is out to destroy your career! Don't do it!
Well, that was my humble advice for what I just read. What is up with all of the apologies too?
'I'm soo sorry, but I must follow my hormones and destroy my life!'
By the end of this volume, I was tired of reading all of the fake appologies.

This series is frustrating in that you know it's one giant love triangle, and it will never be resolved because a) that's bad for plot and b) the series is on "hiatus" anyway (not that I ever see it coming back). I have a clear, clear frontrunner in who I want to win this battle and while I love his scenes he's not stepping up as much as he needs to - and that's just kinda depressing to read.
