A very good chronological description of the Watergate scandal covering the first Nixon administration up to June 29173. It provides a lot of information on the who the main role players were and the origins of the scandal. A good companion book to The Final Days.

Good, clear coverage of the facts known at the time of writing, but note that it was written just as the Senate hearing was starting, so don't expect the full story.

From January 1973: “The United States was ‘closer to one-man rule than at any time in our history… Fundamentally we have experienced an exhaustion of important institutions in America. Today, only the presidency is activist and strong, whole other traditional centers of power are depleted.’ Congress was impotent, the Republican Party was in ‘utter vassalage’ to the President, the Democratic Party was in disarray and the press was ineffective.”
And the wheel? Still it turns.
