Shane, The Lone Ethnographer is an accessible and entertaining introduction to ethnography. Campbell Galman walks the reader through the process of doing ethnographic research, via her comic character Shane, the Lone Ethnographer, on the campus of an unnamed university. For the novice researcher about to embark on fieldwork in qualitative research methods, this is an excellent--and the only comic-book--introduction. Her text will delight and inform students who are learning ethnographic methods in anthropology, education, and other social science courses.
Fun and accessible introduction to ethnography, although the humor is a bit stale sometimes. Would recommend this if you have a serious interest in ethnographic studies or doing ethnographic fieldwork, otherwise not.
A delightful, accessible and insightful walk through the ethnographic research process. Good for teaching new researchers, but also an excellent book to re-read regularly to ground yourself in the process.
Loved it! Extremely helpful in words and pictures. The format, that of a graphic novel, was refreshing...a gem among my grad school books. Shane's questions, journey, hurdles and moments of despair were aligned so well with my journey, that I sought the advice and guidance found within the pages throughout the semester, and I am sure will continue to do so.
