Cape Greed
Set along the coast of Cape Town, this first rate crime novel introduces two private investigators who get involved in seemingly different cases. Jeffrey is hired by the wife of an adulterous financial consultant, while Vincent is contracted to find out who is stealing from an abalone farm. But the two cases converge, and the mastermind behind them both is a mesmerizing international gangster. Cape Greed highlights a fascinating locale for America’s crime fiction fans.

On the whole, I enjoyed this book, however, I found all the characters a bit confusing at times. So many things happening at the same time! For me, it picked up pace in the second half of the book and I enjoyed reading something set in my home town.

South African noir. The blurb said it's like Elmore Leonard or Carl Hiaasen; I thnk it's much more like James Ellroy or Richard Stark.
No matter, it's an unpleasant tale of double-cross, international finance, psycho druggies, burned-out cops, and gore. Fast-paced, and a lot of local lingo that becomes clear by context.
I'm impressed.

I found the local lingo off putting and the scene switching a bit disorienting, but all in all, a riveting tale, hope they make a movie of it!

Really enjoyed this one. Richard Stark is a good comparison.
