When a young magician discovers his powers, the world changes before his very eyes...
Ruger Stern is heading off to college when he is approached by Amanda Newport, an operative in the CIA's secret Torrent Control Organization. Amanda reveals a magical realm that Ruger could never have imagined—and offers to train him so he can attain his power.
Recruited to work in the TCO's elite Librarian program, Ruger quickly learns the difference between friend and foe. And that not all magic-wielders are good. Some are searching for dark grimoires that could destroy the world.
As he hunts down members of a magical terror group, he learns the hard truth about loyalties. In the end, Ruger must decide if his magic will be used for good... or evil.
Joss Walker is an award-winning fantasy author and the alter ego of New York Times bestselling thriller author J.T. Ellison. Through her fantasy works, Joss delves into her passion for the genre and crafts stories of extraordinary women discovering their power in the world. With the creation of Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian, Joss brings you a captivating contemporary fantasy series that appeals to lovers of books, libraries, romance, and, of course, magic.
This is the story of Ruger Stern the young man who was just starting college when he is approached by a woman who offers him a different option and reveals magic to him. She is Amanda Newport and she works for the CIA at their magical law enforcement agency. Ruger did not believe in magic but when found that he too could access the torrent he accepted to be trained. He was found to be a good librarian as he had a great love for books and libraries but when he went out on his first assignment he was betrayed. Their were those who were seeking very powerful magical grimoires and these were supposed to be kept away from those who would use them for evil but Ruger never expected to be betrayed by one of their own and someone he had trusted so completely. His heart would never heal from this betrayal but it set him on the course his life would follow, that of using his magic for good! I love this story about a character who we have met in previous books but had no idea of his starting point and this fills in his background very nicely!
A quick glimpse into the Jayne Thorne CIA Librarian series. Here a young boy (almost a man) who has always felt happiest in nature and with books, preferably reading books while in nature, learns he has magical powers. Will his gauge for good hold true when tempted to stray? Interesting read that piques my interest for the series.
I love these short stories from the world of Jayne Thorne!
In A Betrayal of Magic, we get to see a bit of Ruger Stern’s history. I really enjoy the short story format and how we can explore different characters with a bit more depth.
Oh, I do like this Jayne Thorne series and the backstories Joss Walker provides. A very young Ruger is the focus and he captures the pages just like when he is with Jayne Thorne. I am hoping for a nice long series and lots of adventures.
I liked this short story that tells how Ruger started out and how he became an agent and met Amanda. I enjoy his character in Jayne's books and look forward to more if him.
I love J T Ellison’s books so I decided to read something from her fantasy series under her pen name Joss Walker. It was a short story, a prequel to the Jayne Thorne series. Quick read and gave me a glimpse into her world of magic! I liked it and will be back for more!
