A very political book, though you might not expect it to be. This book is interesting to read because it shows how someone's class position determines their world view. Bell is a small time capitalist who gets falls victim to the forces of global capitalism; the combination of "big big" retail and outsourcing of production to countries with cheaper labour, especially China.

Her politics can be broadly described as economic nationalism. She speaks favourably some policies that are in common with
