Headmistress Miss Jennings has instituted some changes in an old-fashioned British girls' school, to Betty's consternation. Betty tries to stir up some resistance, and gets all the prefects to join her--with the single exception of Hilary Day, Miss Jennings' niece. One by one the prefects regain their good standing--except for Betty.

Published in 1938, it must have seemed outdated when it was republished in compendiums in 1955 and the 1960s and now seems archaic! But what fun to read a good old fashioned school story!
