The blurb goes like this: The outfit was ridiculously revealing. Still, food writer Gina Thomas needed a disguise for the costume party...just so she could sneak into divorce lawyer Mason Scott's office and steal a few photos to save her sister—the trouble magnet.
However, the costume seems to bring out the naughtier side of Gina. And Mason can't keep his gorgeous eyes—or his hands—off her! But even as the New-And-Way-Sexier Gina submits to Mason's exquisitely carnal attentions, Practical Gina wonders how long before she's caught red-handed....
Pretty straightforward and pure Blaze, judging from the two paragraphs above and the fact the hero and heroine go down and dirty on the desk in his office without him knowing her name (or anything about her, least of all why she's really in his house) and without her taking off her mask.
Unfortunately from that point onward the plot takes a nosedive into ridiculous and sometimes downright absurd with Ms. Hunter joining the ranks of Blaze authors trying to blend sex and suspense and failing miserably.
Gina went to Mason's house to steal pictures of her sister's infidelity. Mason is her brother-in-law's divorce attorney and the pictures of Gina's sister's one-night-stand are the only leverage the two men have. It turns out Tracy's (Gina's sister) one-night-stand was a full blown affair so Gina leaves the pictures in the file, shags Mason and leaves the premises.
But Tracy didn't just go out and have an affair, she had to have an affair with a smuggler/murdered/kidnapper and told him about the pics. The guy now wants them back at all costs, so Gina has to go back and get them before the bad guy harms her volatile sister.
But of course the FBI has to get involved, they take the photos before Gina gets to them, someone ransacks her apartment, Tracy is nowhere to be found, baddies shoot at both Gina and Mason, and the two are forced into FBI safekeeping in a lovely suburban house.
To top it all off, Tracy's stolen something else from the bad guy, her husband (they're reconciled somewhere in the middle) concocts a devious scheme for the bad guy to leave them alone, which naturally goes sour, the two are kidnapped and is once again Gina's mission to save the day.
Ludicrous, poorly written, slow-paced, with bland characters this story had only one strong point - the sex. But there were only two hot scenes in the entire book (again featuring masks, hidden identities and two ties as makeshift restraints), which makes for a bad bargain. Beyond disappointing.

Ada dua hal yg bikin saya bingung setelah membaca buku ini, yaitu:
1. Josie & Tom siapa ya??
Kok di bab prolog mereka muncul seolah-olah mereka adalah karakter utamanya tp sampai dg bab 8 dst, mereka hilang seperti ditelan bumi??
Dan baru muncul lagi pas di bab epilogue??
2. Dress penyanyi kabaretnya di cover buku ini kenapa warnanya hitam ya?
Kan di dalam ceritanya, Gina Thomas itu berpakaian dress warna merah loh.
Apa mungkin editor nya lupa dengan deskripsi ceritanya?!
Kedua pertanyaan itu sempat mengganggu benak saya, bukan bermaksud julid ya, tapi sebenarnya itu adalah hal sepele namun menjadi catatan konyol selama membaca buku ini.
Untungnya hal tsb tidak mengurangi minat saya dalam menyelesaikan buku ini cuz buku ini bagus juga.
Secara pribadi, saya tidak mengenal Samantha Hunter plus gmn writing style-nya tapi setelah membaca buku ini, saya jadi ingin mengoleksi karyanya.
Sejatinya buku ini terbit pada tahun 2009 dibawah bendera Harlequin. So klo kamu penggemar buku2 HQ pasti kamu ga akan asing dengan tema2 yg menjadi andalannya HQ seperti "surprising baby, syeikh, mistress, CEO, bad boy gone tobat" :p
Cuz tema2 spt itu memang jualan nya HQ. Dan buku ini masuk kategori blush so pasti banyak part yg bisa bikin kamu kejang2 :p
Adalah Mason Scott, seorang pengacara spesialis perceraian yg sangat terkenal. Dia orangnya optimistic, good looking, tajir melintir, so no wonder ia selalu dikelilingi wanita. Meski hidupnya sangat sukses, ia sangat anti dalam berkomitmen dg wanita sehingga di usianya yg sudah matang, ia masih betah sendiri dan hobi menjalani hubungan jangka pendek tanpa komitmen apapun. Hingga suatu malam, ia bertemu dengan Gina Thomas, seorang kritikus restoran yg selalu hidup dibelakang layar.
Gina Thomas orangnya pesimis, lugu, introvert dan suka hidup monoton. Ia percaya bahwa hidupnya menyedihkan bila dibandingkan dengan adiknya yg hidup bak sosialita. Sebenarnya Tracy, adik tirinya Gina Thomas, adalah biang masalah cuz ia selalu hidup "semau gw". Secara penampilan, ia seperti model dan selalu terhindar dari masalah berkat pertolongan Gina Thomas. Gina selalu memanjakannya dan selalu siap 24 jam bila Tracy memohon bantuannya kapan pun itu. Dan pertemuan Gina dg Mason adalah berkat desakan Tracy juga.
Mason adalah pengacara pribadi yg mengurus perceraian Rio, suaminya Tracy. Mason memiliki bukti perselingkuhan Tracy dg Dupree berupa foto2 yg siap menjungkirbalikkan hidup Tracy. Karena hal inilah, Tracy memohon bantuan Gina untuk pergi ke night party-nya Mason di rumahnya. Disana Mason mengadakan acara topeng, sehingga setiap tamu yg datang pasti memakai kostum yg aneh2 dan pastinya ini menjadi pintu masuk bagi Gina untuk menyelinap ke acara itu. Dengan membawa misi untuk mencuri bukti2 perselingkuhannya Tracy, ia pun memesan kostum ala hantu Halloween di sebuah Toko kostum. Namun sialnya toko tsb salah mengirim kostumnya, ia malah menerima kostum penyanyi kabaret berwarna merah terang yg sangat ketat dan banyak mengumbar auratnya :p
Nasi sudah jadi bubur loh, jadi pilihannya ia batal hadir ke Rumah Scott or tetap datang dg memakai kostum itu. Akhirnya ia pun memilih tetap datang cuz ia berpikir dg banyaknya tamu yg hadir maka tak mungkin ia bisa menjadi spotlight & dikenali oleh Mason. Celakanya saat ia masuk ke Rumah itu, ia malah langsung diseret oleh asistennya Mason untuk segera memulai bernyanyi cuz band sudah lama menunggu kehadirannya. Karena dikira ialah penyanyi yg mereka tunggu, padahal ia kesana untuk mencuri bukan untuk menyanyi meski ia memakai kostum penyanyi kabaret.
Disaat bersamaan Mason mengeluh dg pestanya yg terlalu ramai & ia bosan setengah mati dg kondisi tsb. Mendengar keluhan itu, adiknya Mason menyarankan agar ia mencari wanita sebagai hiburan malam itu, berhubung ia cosplay ala Count Vampire pastinya banyak wanita yg bersedia "digigit secara sukarela" :p
Tak dinyana, ia memandang langsung ke arah Gina Thomas, sang penyanyi kabaret. Dan percik gairah pun langsung bereaksi. Meski Gina bernyanyi dengan suara serak-serak basah ala penyanyi dangdut, tapi dengan kostum yg ia kenakan itu mampu membangkitkan sisi liarnya plus berhasil mencuri perhatian Mason. Dan Mason pun mulai memburunya seperti kuda jantan yg mau kawin :p
Tak perlu waktu lama bagi Mason untuk menangkap Gina cuz ia menemukannya di ruang pribadinya. Gina berbohong padanya bahwa ia disuruh ke ruang itu oleh asistennya untuk beristirahat setelah lelah bernyanyi, padahal ia kesana tanpa diketahui siapa pun. Meski awalnya Mason curiga dg alasan itu, tapi birahinya mengambil alih akal sehatnya :p
Dalam sekejap ruang tsb menjadi bak kamar gairah mereka, meski mereka belum mengenal secara personal tapi libido menguasai jiwa raga mereka secara intense.
Intinya Gina selalu membuat Mason kejang2 & Mason membangkitkan sisi liarnya Gina. Mereka pas satu sama lain tapi Gina selalu merasa minder cuz ia berpikir bahwa hubungan mereka cuma sebatas "friends with benefit" saja. Ia selalu pessimistic. Meski Mason berupaya untuk terlihat gentleman dan serius berhubungan dengannya tapi Gina berpikir lain.
Ditambah lagi dengan adanya ancaman pembunuhan dari Dupree, Mason mulai protective & meminta bantuan agent FBI untuk menyelesaikan masalah tsb.
Disisi lain hubungan Tracy dengan Rio semakin membaik cuz Tracy sadar bahwa Dupree adalah seorang kriminal & sudah lama menjadi buronan yg diincar FBI. Sadar dengan bahaya yg mengancam Tracy, Rio pun mengajak Tracy pergi untuk menghilang sementara waktu hingga Dupree ditangkap.
Satu per satu masalah mulai mengincar mereka:
1. Apakah Dupree berhasil membunuh Gina?
2. Bagaimana kelanjutan proses perceraian Rio & Tracy? Apakah mereka jadi cerai/rujuk?
3. Bisakah Mason menyelamatkan Gina dari pembunuh berdarah dingin?
4. Mampukah Mason hidup tanpa Gina?
Temukan jawabannya dalam bab 8 s/d bab 12 ya sis ;)

Gina, seorang kritikus makanan, mengambil resiko masuk ke dalam kantor Mason Scott untuk mengambil foto-foto adiknya, Tracy. Foto itu adalah foto perselingkuhan Tracy yang digunakan oleh Rio, suaminya yang akan menceraikannya. Berhubung kantor Mason sedang melaksanakan pesta Halloween, maka Gina hanya memerlukan kostum yang sempurna untuk bisa menyusup.
Tetapi kostum yang diterimanya adalah kostum penyanyi kabaret yang seksi. Bukannya bisa menyamar, Gina menjadi pusat perhatian. Apalgi dia terpkasa harus menggantikan penyanyi yang disewa oleh agen pesta. Setelah menyanyikan beberapa lagu, Gina menyusup ke kantor Mason. Dia menemukan yang dicari, namun tidak jadi mengambilnya karena dia merasa dibohongi oleh Tracy. Sayangnya Mason menangkap basah Gina yang berada di ruangannya. Gina kemudian mencoba bermain peran sesuai pakaian yang digunakannya, namun justru membawanya ke pengalaman menakjubkan bersama Mason. Sebelum menghilang, Mason berhasil membuat Gina berjanji akan melewatkan satu malam fantasi bersama.
Ternyata dokumen milik Tracy merupakan barang bukti seorang penyelundup narkoba buronan FBI. Tracy memohon pada Gina untuk kembali mengambil foto itu, apalagi mendengarkan cerita Gina bahwa dia akan kembali ke rumah Mason. Sayangnya kali ini Gina harus terlibat jauh dan terpaksa disembunyikan oleh FBI demi keamanannya.
Dalam masa persembunyian Mason dan Gina menghabiskan waktu berdua. Tentu saja mereka memilih melakukan kegiatan yang menyenangkan. Mason semakin terpesona dengan Gina, sementara Gina merasa bahwa dirinya yang dikenal oleh Mason bukanlah dirinya yang sesungguhnya. Mason belum pernah melihatnya dalam "kostumnya" yang asli. Apakah Mason juga menyukai Gina yang asli?
Berhubung novel ini adalah Harlequin Blush, jadinya isinya seputar romansa antara Mason dan Gina. Lumayan hot, dan diberikan bumbu suspense meski tidak terlalu menegangkan. Yang membuat saya bertanya-tanya adalah tokoh Josie dan Tom yang ada di prolog dan epilog. Sepertinya Josie adalah karyawan toko penyewaan kostum. Apakah hanya sebatas itu saja hubungannya dengan isi cerita?
Tetapi kostum yang diterimanya adalah kostum penyanyi kabaret yang seksi. Bukannya bisa menyamar, Gina menjadi pusat perhatian. Gina Thomas can't believe the lengths she's going to to help her sister. That's how she finds herself dressed in the sexiest, skimpiest Hallowe'en costume and breaking into sexy lawyer, Mason Scott's house to steal incriminating photos.
Mason can't take his eyes off the sexy siren that walked through his door so when she offers him a fantasy, he can't say no. But when Gina's sister leads them both into serious trouble, Mason begins to realise that fantasy isn't nearly as good as reality.
Goodness me this was a bad book. I liked the premise and the idea that by dressing in a costume you can turn yourself into someone you've always wanted to be... but that was honestly about it.
There was zero sexual tension or chemistry between any of the characters and I'm not sure how we were supposed to care about them as they were so lifeless and flat. Gina was a dull character, Mason was stereotypical and the secondary characters were just pointlessly bland.
I am also happy to suspend reality in a story but when the gangsters showed up and people started putting themselves in totally ridiculous situations simply to create some drama in the story, I knew that this book definitely wasn't a keeper for me. I honestly don't feel that I can recommend this book to anyone, unfortunately. If you're reading the Dressed to Thrill mini-series then you might want to give it a read to see how it fits with the other stories but other than that I would give it a miss. 1 star.

Ceritanya ringan aja sih pdhl alurnya berpotensi jadi agak sedikit berbobot. Tapi krn plot ceritanya sudah receh dr awal, ya gak ada hal yg mengejutkan.
Gina ini karakternya agak bodoh juga kalau dipikir-pikir ulang. Gina mau-maunya disuruh adik tirinya, Tracy utk mencuri foto perselingkuhannya dari pengacara suaminya, Mason. Konyolnya Gina menuruti dgn menggunakan kostum "nakal" dan malah disangka penyanyi yg dipesan oleh anak buah Mason.
Mason memang pengacara playboy. Liat penyanyi sensual sedikit langsung diuber. Ketemu sih cuma si Mason heran aja koq nih penyanyi ada di ruang pribadinya dan menolak dgn keras menyebutkan namanya. Tapi berjanji mau kencan semalam asal tidak diberitahu namanya. Pas malam M nya, ternyata si Gina malah melakukan hal bodoh lagi dan kegep mau nyolong tuh foto. Akhirnya Gina ngaku siapa dirinya dan mereka bekerjasama. Setelah itu gak ada hal-hal yg mengejutkan, krn Gina dan Mason sibuk saling menggerayangi.
Adik Gina ini, Tracy adalah tipikal sidekick nyebelin bin bodoh menurut saya. Lagian ceritanya menggampangkan banget Tracy rujuk kembali dgn suaminya.
Kalau mau cari bacaan romance syur-syur, Harlequin Blaze ini boljug dibaca. Tapi kalau mencari plot cerita yg ok, novel ini bukan utk anda.

This was a surprisingly enjoyable read. It popped up when I was looking for something else and thought I'd give it a try. A hot romance and some mild suspense/crime story. I think it is part of 3 interconnected stories around Halloween so the preface and epilogue were disconnected from the story.

Caught In The Act is a fine piece of reading by Samantha Hunter. Its got a little bit of everything, romance, suspense, hot steamy, make you want to take a cold shower sex, and wacky relatives. These things always make for great story, and Samantha Hunter does not disappoint.
Gina is a food critic who will do just about anything to get her little sister Tracey out of trouble, including breaking into a lawyer's office to steal pictures of her sister in several compromising positions. But when she finds them, that's when things get shaken up, especially when she ends up getting hot and heavy with the lawyer, Mason.
When its discovered that Tracey's boyfriend is more than it seems, The FBI comes in and it seems like everyone is in danger, in more ways then one.
Gina is really interesting character. I love how she loses her inhibitions when she's in costume at Mason's house, when they first meet and later when they are in the safe house, and he buys her clothes. When's she's dressed sexy, she can be sexy. That's probably the case for many women. But what really makes Gina so endearing is her devotion to her sister. I don't think many people would stoop to theivery to save a siblings ass, when it was pretty much a given that they were in the wrong.
Mason is a great hero too, though I think he was probably more lenient than any "real" man would be when he discovered that the woman he was about to make love to was using him to get evidence. Aside from that, he was very admirable, he protected Gina, even when she was doing something totally stupid, like endangering their lives to talk to her sister.
The characters were all well rounded, even the secondary one's like Tracey and her husband Rio, who's relationship was almost a mini-story within this story. This really helped to make the reader feel like they knew the characters and not just as an observer to their lives.
The suspense was really a surprise to me, as Blaze books usually focus more on hot steamy sex, but there was a good balance in this book, at times it really put me on the edge of my chair.

When the wrong costume is sent to Gina Thomas, she almost backs out of her agreement to dig her sister out of trouble. But with a little persuasion she heads off to the party being held by Mason Scott, determined to grab the pictures and then get out of there. However, when she arrives she's mistaken for the singer and thrust into the limelight.
The sparks between Mason, a divorce lawyer, and Gina a food critic are instant and undeniable, although Gina tries putting it down to the costume and the persona she 'dresses' in for the situation.
Their world, however, is turned upside down when the man in her the photographs with her sister, turns out to be a career criminal and he wants those pictures back before they focus too much attention on him. And he's willing to kill and threaten whoever it takes in order to get them. Including Gina and her sister.
A sensual romance with a nicely written thriller as a background to the story. The second in the Dressed to Thrill series that I've listened to so far and I look forward to listening or reading more in the series.

The blurb does not do this book justice in my opinion. I was expecting a sexy read - this is a blaze after all - and it certainly delivered on that score. The sex scenes positively sizzle!
However Samantha Hunter delivers so much more with this book. Without giving the plot away, the heroine's sister gets herself into very hot water indeed, by associating with some very dangerous people. The result is danger round ever corner and the reader is left to wonder whether the love blossoming between hero and heroine can survive all the drama. Can you trust emotions born in surreal situations, or is this all just a fantasy, that will never hold up in the hum drum of ordinary life? You will have to read the book to find out, but the author had me wondering for a while right up till the last pages.
I literally could not put this down and read it in one sitting. If you love romantic suspense then this is the book for you. And even if you don't, read it anyway, you will not be disappointed.

Samantha Hunter's Caught in the Act was a fun read, a spicy story with heart. I loved Gina's loyalty and willingness to help her sister and Mason's by the book straitlaced attitude. The conflict of fantasy versus reality and what was genuine and not was well done. I also liked the glimpses of Rio and Tracy's relationship. The small bit of suspense and mystery was just enough to keep you turning the pages without throwing off the tone of the story. A good quick read

OK story with steamy sex but plot was rather unbelievable and a bit distracting when I kept dwelling on reasons events were unrealistic. Still, I did finish. Food critic Gina wears sexy outfit to Halloween party at attorney Mason's house so she can steal photos for her sister.

THe only thing I didn't like was how the main character could not make a decision for herself and her life was basically revolved around the younger sister and her mistakes. I all didn't like the continuous jumping perspective a lot.

A sexy, enlightening, entertaining Blaze read. A bit different than your typical Blaze-more plot than normal, more conflict aside from the relationship of the primary characters. It was refreshing.
