Communist victory would have given them control of the Gulf, threatening Western oil supplies. But while the World's attention was dominated by Vietnam, the SAS spearheaded the most successful counter-insurgency operation of recent times. Fig ...more

SAS Secret War: Operation Storm in the Middle East by Major Tony Jeapes is the history of Dhofar Rebellion in Oman. Jeapes was the first SAS officer to reach the rank of General. He commanded the British forces in Northern Ireland during the 1980s and retired as commander UK land forces.

This book was originally published in 1980 as SAS Operation Oman after editing by the Ministry of Defence and the Foreign Office. This edition was released in 2000 without the censorship. The author does leave so

If you're looking for a jumping-out-of-airplanes-rappeling-into-embassies-and-slotting-bad-guys-in-the-middle-of-the-night SAS book, look elsewhere. This is no Andy McNab story about THEM. This is however, a slowly paced memoir about conducting a classic counterinsurgency campaign during the Cold War, where practically everything went "right". Interesting read. Never knew SAS played such a role in Oman.

Not particularly detailed, but nonetheless an interesting read on a topic very few of us know about. Some good info on counter insurgency operations..

“SAS Secret War” eBook was published in 2015 and was written by Tony Jeapes. This is the only book General Jeapes (ret) has written. General Jeapes was a unit commander with the SAS and deeply involved with the conflict. He was the commanding officer of the SAS in Dhofar from 1974 until the end of the war.

I received a galley of this novel for review through NetGalley. I categorize this novel as ‘PG’ because it contains some scenes of Violence. This Non-Fiction novel tells the story of the Briti

I loved this book a really engaging look at the Dhofar rebellion. It could be a pertinent read in 2015 with communism being replaced by radical Islam. Jeapes style makes for easy reading and the stories coming from battles such as Mirbat are outstanding.

This book holds a special place in my heart as one of the first books I dove into at the start of writing my thesis. It is an account of a woefully little-known insurgency in Oman in the 60s and 70s.
