Charlotte Grey is hovering between life and death, but the weird thing is, it's taken a coma for her to finally open her eyes and see things clearly. Namely that she's made a complete mess of her short time on Earth, and don't even get her started on the five precious dating years she's just wasted on the worthless, faithless James Kane.

But after a quick peek at the afterl

Up until the end of the book I was undecided between three and four stars, but the end left me undecided between two and three. Why?
The end is sort of a cliffhanger, but there’s no follow up book. It was unsatisfactory... the three main stories get wrapped up by the head angel in a very very short chapter and that’s it. Also, there is no romance for the protagonist, Charlotte. The book is all about her getting over her ex and the lives of her best friend, Fiona, and sister, Ka

I'd finished reading all the Joanne Fluke books that our library had, and which I quite enjoyed. So I asked the librarians about another author that was light-hearted & easy reading (but not romance or soppy!) Claudia Carroll was one of the suggestions.
So I tried this book, but I didn't finish it. The main plot idea is funny enough, but the character of Charlotte I found to be a bit pathetic & sorry for herself. Plus the book didn't go anywhere very quickly due to long descriptions of p

I felt like I'd read it all before & it was a little try hard in the comedy department IMO.
Chick lit has always been one of my guilty pleasures. It's pure potato chip pleasure for me and I've been known to completely cut myself off from civilization whenever Sophie Kinsella or Meg Cabot put out a new book. Paradise gives off roughly the same feel of guilty pleasure, but fails to deliver on exactly all that it promised.

I'm a little torn at how to describe this book. Carroll puts out an entertaining read to where I'm definitely going to track down her other books, but this was a bit of

Whooooaaa! I finally read it. I'm ashamed to admit it's been more than a year since I've downloaded it from NetGalley. I did try reading it once soon after downloading it, but it didn't work for me. I was hoping if I postpone reading and get into a certain mood I'd enjoy this book more. So I gave it another chance. This time I did manage to finish it, however as you can see from the rating, I found it just ok.

I actually really, truly, enjoyed reading this novel. I was worried I'd end up asking for MY money back, but I am glad Claudia Carroll proved me wrong.

Yes, it's a light, fluffy, story - even though the protagonist is actually in a coma - and yes, it is quite predictable, but I still enjoyed it immensely. It is the kind of thing I really needed at the time that I read it.

This book has been perched on my shelf for quite a long time, and I didn't know when I was going to get to it, but I finally di

Loved that this was chick-lit with a twist, the ending was predictable but that didn't matter.

So full of lively funny characters. After an accident a young woman becomes an angel. But instead of peace n bliss she is given a lot of tasks to sort out those left on earth. Her family, her best friend, n especially her loser of a cheating boyfriend. Sometimes frustrating when the people just don't get the message or learn the lesson n even as an angel she can't always intervene. She can see everyone exactly as they really are, but they can't see or hear her. They're also talking about her! A ...more

A run down version of 'Click', highly disappointing and not worth the time. The story hardly grabs your attention and stuck between 4 characters and none of them strong enough to keep the story interesting.

"Girls are like tea, you don't know how strong they are until they get into hot water."

I’ve always loved Claudia Carroll’s works on account of her extremely down-to-earth style of writing and the serious subjects she chooses to write about in an exceptionally amusing way. This looked liked tons of fun- who wouldn’t want revenge, sweet revenge, on an ex-boyfriend? What promised me a fun read was the protagonist, Charlotte Grey

Charlotte, after spending 5 years of her life waiting for James to finally make the commitment, finds herself dumped. She is so angry and distraught, that she tears off in her car and lands herself in the hospital where she can hear voices and music; but she quite likes being in the comfy comatose state, thank you very much. As she snuggles down deeper into her blankets and hazy thoughts, the air takes on a chill and she knows that the rat James has come to check on her. She has to lie there and ...more

I always enjoy books by Claudia Carroll and this was one that I hadn’t got around to reading so when it got to the top of my to-read list I was very excited! I just love the title and the blurb sounded lots of fun too, I couldn’t wait to dive in.

The book began with Charlotte in a coma but very aware of her surroundings, I loved how the author made this serious subject so light-hearted and I found myself chuckling regularly. Straight away I got a bad impression of James (her boyfriend/ex-boyfrien

The concept of the book was really interesting
and I enjoyed the main female character and the stories
that revolved around her in the beginning; however, the author writes
too much internal dialogue and descriptions. There are
paragraphs and paragraphs of unnecessary details that
do not add any substance to the story. After about 100 pages,
I literally started skimming through this extremely long
paragraphs to get to the dialogue. The descriptions were
so unnecessary that if I skipped them and would pi

I didn't like this book, which should be a one-star rating, but I gave it one more star because I did finish it, so it was at least readable. Enjoyable? Not so much.

My problem boils down to this: I just didn't buy it. Not the premise that she's an angel, you understand; I've read and loved books with far more unlikely plots. But in books I love, I don't ever stop to tsk at the author over dozens of plot points, such as that people don't get over a boyfriend of 5 years in a few weeks (or months?)

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars for this one, but as I reflected on it, I decided to round up. This was a quick, enjoyable read that was much more touching than I expected it to be. Through much of the book I felt uncomfortable as I witnessed the ultra private and personal crises of the characters; the author really did a wonderful job of putting me in the main character's shoes and feeling everything she must have felt.

The only thing that annoyed me was the incessant referencing of pop cultur

Charlotte Grey is dead. In her afterlife, she decides to create a little mayhem for an ex and visits her loved ones with the intention of 'helping.' In reality, she complicates things even worse!

If This is Paradise, I Want my Money Back is a highly entertaining book full of funny antics and interesting characters. It is also predictable and somewhat mindless fluff that will be best enjoyed when relaxing and needing something to pass the time.

This is exactly what I have been looking for for the longest time. An Irish, female author that writes good, light, funny chick-lit. I've heard of Claudia Carroll many times as she's a former Fair City (an Irish soap) actress who has since released a good few books. I'll admit I was a little worried that she got the book deal purely on her fame in Ireland but now that Ive read one of her novels I take it all back. She writes well and has that Cecelia Ahern fantasy element that I enjoy so much.

I really liked this book. We follow Charlotte Grey as she is hovering between life & death. She doesn’t particularly like where she is, so after given an opportunity to return to Earth as a bona fide angel, she jumps at it. But there might be a little catch. She is assigned to watch over someone & guide them with their life. And who could that person be? Out of everyone it just had to be her ex-boyfriend, Mr. James Kane.

She’s initially not happy with it, but after realizing he can hear

Starts in such a lovely, funny, way; I would love to believe that our loved ones' truly are nearby, reading our emails, following us as we go through our day to day lives. Carroll writes this book with all the 'eegits' and 'jaysus' of a true Irish dialect, (although, I distracted myself by trying to read it with an accent). Irish "Chick Lit" (as my sister referred this genre of books as) might be a smidge more interesting than the usual 'Gotta Wash That Many Right Outta My Hair" type reading. At ...more

I really, really enjoyed If This Is Paradise I Want My Money Back. Claudia Carroll has collected a fun, yet rag tag cast of characters with only one thing in common. Charlotte Grey. Charlotte was a fun character who truly believed that she was doing the best for all of those that she loved, in reality she was complicating things beyond belief. Her hysterical antics really made the book a fun read. The book is a light-hearted look at the "What If's" of the
This is my book clubs choice to read this month. It looked promising, but it was a bit of a chore to read at times. Being able to get even with an awful ex is something most of us would love to do. Charlotte is an interesting main character. But you can see the book's predictability. You can see every big revelation and plot twist coming. Which kind of spoils the book for me. But I wanted to finish this book to find out what happened to Charlotte. Does she come out of the comma? Does she get eve ...more

I thought that this book was ok. But I have to admit, I couldn't read the rest. Charlotte's charcter is unbelievble. She's basically a stuck up mole that wants everyone to listen to her yet she wont listen to anyone else. She hates the fact that people talk about her in a negative way yet she does it to them.
I gave it 2 stars because it was a good plot, but the charcters and the setting... just didn't cut it for me.
To anyone that wants to read it, i'm not stopping you, but be warned... it does
Zero stars. No one should read this book, it's terrible. She doesn't actually write - he characters are just filled in using references to movies and television shows (how is that even Legal?) and rough descriptions of how they look. Just one horrible cliche on top of another.

This book isn't even laughably bad, at least I would be laughing. It's bewilderingly bad. So bad that you think this must be a publisher's white elephant prize at the company Christmas party.
