An unusual animal this, a sort of manual , actually an encyclopædia, it has the feel of having been written for experts or church workers rather than enthusiasts. The point is, it covers more than buildings and their contents but all aspects of the context, i.e. the Church as an organisation and the ceremonies, liturgy, practices, symbols, traditions, hierarchies that spew from it. For pithy summaries of historical periods of architecture look up by century, thus ‘Sixteenth Century Architecture’ &c. No mention of Prayer Book Churches ...
