Rate this book
This book sets out everything the acrylics artist will need to know. It tackles brushes and the no brush approach - using sponges and fingers - before launching into the nuts and bolts of painting. Whether the reader is a novice or an old hand needing a quick refresher course, this step by step book provides essential information on each aspect of a painting. Every artist sometimes needs an expert looking over their shoulder, nudging them in the right direction, making it clear what needs to be done and in what order, and suggesting when to experiment. This hardcover book with internal wire-o binding is 6.5in x 8in, a perfect size for readers to reference often near their painting equipment. The stylish design of this book, along with the interior photographs, illustrations and diagrams, make the learning process simple and fun for beginners and provides useful tips for more advanced readers. Acrylics are a remarkably versatile medium. It's fast drying and durable, and doesn't crack easily. The pigments of acrylic paint come in many different colors. Acrylic Tips and Tricks also describes many different types and sizes of brushes, and other tools like palette knives, canvases, and mixing palettes.

Nowadays, I'm interested in outdoors sketching, urban sketching and capturing real locations I know. I like acrylics but I'm not in control yet, especially for the things I want to paint. Hopefully this book will help especially that it has sections about depicting landscapes, painting water and creating atmosphere and texture.

This is a good, basic book for beginners. I also used one of the examples (snow on a tree branch) for a painting project for my grand kids (ages 10 and 7) and they could easily follow directions and create a piece of art.
