Jake and Eva Kelly are masters at what they do. From the sex games they play with each other to the cons they pull on their unsuspecting marks, they are unstoppable. To the outside world, Jake and Eva are just another young buppie couple living their dream under the bright lights of New York City. Life is good, money is flowing, and living is large. They couldn't ask for more---until Jake gets greedy. Only this time they pick the wrong mark. The tables have turned and their addiction to the game could cost them everything---even their lives. Now Jake and Eva are forced to pull off the sting of their careers. With the help of Jake's brother Jinx and Eva's look-alike cousin Rita they board a cruise ship from Brazil to take down Xavier Suarez, one of the most notorious figures in the underworld. From the streets of New York City to the steamy tropics of Brazil, from the coast of Miami to the paradise of Hawaii, they hatch a plan with no room for errors. With the FBI hot on their trail and under the threat of Suarez's unspeakable wrath, every trick they've ever learned comes into play. But it is their own dark past that threatens their future, and the secret that Eva harbors that could ruin everything.
The second book I've read by Ms. Hill, I most say that I really like this book. It was hard for me to put down. A true page turner. I hope there is a sequel to this one.”
Jake and Eva Kelly present the perfect façade from the outside looking in. Both have promising careers, live comfortably, but there are two sides to ever coin. It's definitely a family affair as their crew includes Jake's brother, Jinx, and Eva's cousin, Rita. The foursome have pulled off many capers unscathed and have mastered the skills of illegal curriculum. They have taken the game to an all new level and seemingly have it down to a science. Then Eva gets emotional and invites uncertainty into the plan. Things heat up when their latest seemingly clueless mark, has ties to the FBI. Their skills are put to the test when they are blackmailed into scamming an international murderer. When the rabbit has the gun, who's gonna end up having the most fun...the predator or the prey? Who's gaming who? Chess or Checkers? Life or Death?
This is my first full novel by Donna Hill. Guilty Pleasures was a very enjoyable read. Suspense, deceit, love, trust, secrets, adorned with cunning, manipulative characters make for a thrilling ride. 4.38
Eva has been having second thoughts about the con game. Jake just wants to score one more scam at a convention of bankers. Her suspicions prove well founded as the mark is married to an FBI agent. A crooked FBI agent at that. They are forced to try to fleece a feared Latin American hustler. Cliché? No. Rita uses her wily charms after beating him at blackjack. He pays her back in the bedroom and Jinx was having a hard time getting over it. It was a successful, if bloodless, score. Anticipating a baby, the foursome head to Hawaii for endless sun and phone. A phone call from a certain pissed off hustler has them think about the next scam.
Jake and Eva Kelly are happily married--happily married con artists, that is. They've sailed along with no problems, until one day they end up conning the wrong couple.
This is another one that I wish had been more romance and less thriller. Once I got over that part though, I did enjoy reading their antics on the cruise ship, while they tried to out-con the people after them.
About a couple working on the "last con" which of course turns into more than they bargain for. Not only does this married couple have to make a change in their life, but they learn to deal with dark secrets and fears of their pastime. A very good book!
I enjoyed reading this book. I love the chemistry between John and Eva. I hope there will be a part 2 of what happens next for Eva and John and Rita and Jinx...
Is there a sequel??? Please tell me there's a sequel!!! This book was great!!!! Whew, Eva and Jake.. what a couple!!! Page turner!! Couldn't wait to see the outcome. Wasn't expecting the end ...
I enjoyed this book. I couldn't give it 5 stars because the story seemed so rushed and sometimes predictable. There were parts such as Traci being a part of it that didn't make sense. Why was she part of it? How did that whole thing start? A good easy read - just needed more to it.
