Cage of Shadows
She thought of him as her father's friend.
Matthew Wilder had been a brilliant medical researcher who had suddenly disappeared from Joanna's life. Her memory of him was vague.
When they finally met again on a remote Florida key, he bore no resemblance to the uncle of her imagination.
The mutual desire that flared between them overshadowed the reason for their meeting. But the secret that had driven him into solitude was what, in the end, would keep them apart.

3.5 stars The heroine is on the limp noodle side and the romance part is kind of whatever, but Matthew’s secret is verrrrry interesting.

Not one of my favorite Harlequins. The story just didn't grip me. 19 year old is pressured into flying to Florida to locate and try to dig up some dirt on an old colleague of her father's. As a child she knew him as "Uncle Matt", though he wasn't really her uncle. Of course she falls for him, despite the fact he's (I think) 40 years old. He has secrets, and keeps trying to push her away, but of course he's attracted to her and just can't help himself.

The hero and heroine met when the heroine was younger. She felt attracted to the hero whom was also her fathers friend, then suddenly the hero just disappeared out of her life. Running into him again sparked the same kind of intensity as before but he's holding a secret close to his heart and it might just keep them separated forever.

This one actually surprised me with a cool little twist. From the beginning, the hero had secrets, but his big one was BIG! I liked that the heroine wore "spectacles" and that they were mentioned often during the book. But, of course, she was a hot girl with glasses. I wouldn't actually liked for this book to be longer since it had an interesting story for a harlequin.

Heroine (19) manages to manipulate hero (39) against his principles using her nubile body and lust for him.
Poor hero has no chance. Initially he'd been led by lust into relationship with heroine's stepmother years before. Then three years ago into a drunken fling with his friend's wife (all three living in the same house and she is his housekeeper) and now the daughter of his dead old friend (the heroine).
It's a gripping read in places and has a novel twist, and there's real chemistry between the protagonists, but you do feel that within a couple of years the heroine will meet someone at art collage and it will be the hero's turn to feel the consequences of his actions.
But for some reason I still liked it - 4 stars.

"Cage of Shadows" is the story of Joanna and Matthew.
The story is off a destitute heroine, tortured by her evil stepmother, blackmailed to spy on the hero- who is her father's estranged friend. She's very desperate about her intentions even though the hero pushes her away, until he can't. Lots of drama before the happy ending.
It was ok!
