The Midnight Hour

Rate this book
Sexy, dangerous, unforgettable. . .the Madaris family and their unlikely band of friends captured readers' hearts and souls. Now, in The Midnight Hour, bestselling author Brenda Jackson brings us another breathtaking novel featuring the Madaris family and friends.

One, CIA agent Sir Drake Warren gave his heart to a woman---a fellow Marine whose death in an explosion left him aching for justice. Drake vowed he would never love again. But his devotion to his former lover is tested when he meets his mysterious new partner, Agent Victoria Green. With golden-brown eyes and skin like melted chocolate, Victoria leaves Drake yearning for the love he lost---and flirting closely with the white-hot passion he once knew, he's sure he'll get burned. . .

Few people know that Victoria was once a Marine named Sandy Carroll. . .and that she was embroiled in a fervent love affair with Drake until an explosion nearly killed her. Her life-saving surgery gave her a new face and identity---that of CIA operative Victoria Green. Now, Victoria is bound by duty to keep her true identity a secret, especially from Drake.

Paired on a deadly mission, Victoria's senses are awakened by Drake's every move. But just as the passion she's denied for so long threatens to boil over, Drake begins to put together the pieces of the puzzle. And when he does, will Victoria lose him forever?

CIA agent Sir Drake Warren lost the woman he loved (Sandy Carroll) and since then has taken every dangerous mission imaginable, he never expects his heart to be engaged ever gain until he meets Agent Victoria (Tori) Green.

Few people know that Tori was once a Marine named Sandy Carroll - the love of Drake's life, with Tori working with Drake their attraction cannot be ignored, but he has no idea who she is, and yet even as she is Sandy she isn't entirely who she once was. Can he love the woman she is today, and forgive the secrets she has kept?

I have to say every time Drake said he wanted to visit their baby (whilst they were having sex), my nose wrinkled a lot!

Overall a enjoyable one time read, even if it didn't live up entirely to the memory I had of the read.

I kept telling myself over and over I'm going to detox from so many of these books but once I saw this and Sir Drake...I couldn't resist. It was kind of predictable and the fight scene was a little dull but over all the characters and the heat they created was a page turner. With Sir Drake popping in and out of the other stories it was good to see his story.

A Terrific Tale

Unfortunately, not knowing this was a series, this was the first Madaris novel I read. And it was still another great read by Mrs. Brenda Jackson. I thought the story wouldn't hold much interest for me considering I was coming into it before reading the previous novels, but it still pulled me in and held me captive from beginning to end. Just made me all the more willing to back-track and read the whole Madaris series. The characters are quite memorable and the storyline flows efforlessly. After reading this you will definitely want to be in the Madaris family or one of their many friends. Definitely looking forward to catching up with them all.

I love Sir Drake Warren and Tori Green's story. The passion and devotion between them could be felt on every page. To be reconnected to a love that you thought you had lost, emotional and over-powering. I'll be re-reading this at some point.

Love it!!!! Its filled with lots of action, suspense, drama and some sexy love scenes. I love that both Drake and Sandy/Tori are both compatible in love as well as in skills. Tori is a strong heroine that can kick some butt and Drake is just as bad or maybe worst. I love how the locations of the scenes were written I can visualize the mountains. This is a must read alone as well as part of the series books.

Don't wait until the midnight hour

Read this book now. It was well written and a enjoyable read. You may be able to figure out the story line but it is most enjoyable to see how she buts the story together. I love how Drake is a tough man but one who knows how to love a women and has good friends. It's just good to read positive stories about strong black men that are not afraid to love their women, their families, and their friends.

Thrilling, engrossing, engaging, renewing.

CIA agent Sir Drake Warren has an opportunity to live his life the with the one woman in the world that he could love forever. But the catch is that she is not allowed to tell him who she really is.

This is most certainly a read the will read again and again. Jackson make the Madaris Family & Friends a series to come back to over and over again.

Awesome story! I love how Sir Drake and Tori loved and loss at the midnight hour. Though tough cookie Sir Drake is a risky one, he took the best risk of all when he fell in love with Sandy/Tori. I can't wait to read Unfinished Business. Next up Christy and Alex!!!

❤️❤️

When you get a second chance at love. Tori aka Sandy got a second chance at life, but she had to sacrificed Drake, her soulmate to grab it. Drake wrestled with death ever since he lost Sandy. When Tori comes into his life on a three day mission, his attraction to her is a surprise. She reminds him of Sandy, his lost love, but he still wants her for her. They are put together again to take down Cross, the man who tried to kill Sandy before and make Drake suffer for killing his wife. Through it all, Drake and Tori find themselves falling for each other. So when Tori spills the truth Drake is left reeling. But I’m the end, they defeat Cross with close friends and take their second chance at love, this time with a wedding and baby involved ❤️❤️. It is always a pleasure reading a Madaris family saga book. I love the danger, suspense and love flowing through the pages. On to another one.

I was a bit surprised that Tori felt so strongly about Drake comparing her to Sandy. Seeing as she had to have maintained some of her natural traits, what did she think would happen? I was also surprised that she was upset by the work Drake did. Hadn't she been doing the same type of work during the time they were separated?

There was a nice amount of suspense as the antagonism between Drake and Cross intensified. I was glad to revisit both Ashton and Trevor.

I thought both Drake and Tori had rough edges at the beginning. He was abrupt and a bit rude. Tori was exhibiting a bit of hypocrisy. I was glad when those rough edges started to smooth out.

I thought the narration was good. The dialogue wasn't too flowery. I liked the action that was interspersed throughout the book. I was glad when Sir Drake and Tori (Sandy) got their HEA. I would give this bookn3.5 stars.

Will Keep You Up Long Past Midnight

I had always been curious about Sir Drake Warren, and The Midnight Hour more than satisfied my curiosity! I fell in love with Drake Warren myself, so I could understand why Tori had to convince him to live! In Tori, Brenda Jackson created an Alpha Heroine, a woman who could hold her own against any man, yet was feminine and romantic as well. Together, the two of them were dynamite waiting to explode! Their story is riveting, and as the title stated, kept me up long past midnight until I finished it! Excellent story!!

I enjoyed this book. Drake a Former Marine and secret service agent loses the love his life in a mission and is on a death wish spiral down in life, unaware that she isn’t actually dead, but is living with a new identity, Tori. They meet again and fall in love while seeking revenge on the psychopath after them. Well written and has enough action which doesn’t diminish the romance. Loved it.

Thriller with a touch of Romance

I was really interested to see how Mrs Jackson would tackle the plot and it was totally worth it, it is a really good read. So parts involving Tori aka Sandy, were a little annoying. Like her being upset that drake still loved “Sandy”, who was her. She didn’t want to be a replacement for herself, which made no sense at all.
