"The image you had of me was inaccurate; The absence of the symphony of my secrets made it a completely distinct story."
When I started writing this poetry collection, that was the first thing that came to mind. Maybe it was because I never thought anyone would understand me.
All of us have fallen in love and had our hearts broken. Over the years, we have lost friendships and felt lost at least once. In those moments, you just want to find something that would help you express your emotions. Poems for such moments are included in this collection.
No matter what your situation or where you are, hopefully, you can find at least one poem in this collection that speaks to you.
I've been meaning to check out Mia Sanchez's debut poetry collection for a while now, but alas I've been so busy that I didn't get to dive into it straight away. But I'm such a poetry fan and I love finding new poets so I'm glad I finally found some time recently to catch up on some of the collections I've picked up (also reading Roaring Twenties and Blushing Muse: Poems).
Also, I just want to say that the cover is gorgeous! I love the atmosphere and vibes and title.
What will it take for us to realize The worth of all of this
This collection of poetry is filled with emotion and commentary on modern relationships and had some really great lines!
I will make the midnight mine
Definitely excited to see what Sanchez publishes next!
KindleUnlimited review. Mia Sanchez’s collection of non-rhyming poetry is an honest reflection of her life experience, personal relationships, and sell-doubt. One’s teenage years are filled with uncertainty, questioned identity, and budding maturity where awkwardness can lead to isolation. Consequently, many readers can identify with her poem ‘Misunderstood Me’ where the author reflected: “She gets ignored by the ones she adores; She always gets missed in crowds; no one cares. She never gets to express her opinions out loud; Her words always sound naive to people.”
Mia honestly shares her emotional turmoil while searching for answers. There are occasions where one wears a happy face or suffers in silence to cloak the heartache. The author posits that quiet people have something to say but feel hesitant to share or lack words to adequately express: “Introverts have loud thoughts they can’t ignore. They think twice before doing one single thing; Scared of making mistakes and gaining attention; Be judged by people they want some love from.” If you enjoy reading self-reflective prose about unrequited romance and lost love, this poetry collection is for you.
I am so not a poetry person but wow.. I highly recommend everyone check this out. It was so relatable, full of emotion and beautiful writing. Fragile was one of my favorites and I truly could feel what the author was trying to get across.
I think there is something everyone can relate to even if you haven't been in love. Some of these poems also describe how you can feel in friendships or in any other relationship. You will love this book if you're an introvert or if you feel like you don't fit in.
"The Blame Game" almost had me in tears, because I'm in a friendship that is exactly like how she describes it in the poem.
"Misfit" literally had me in tears. It was short but it described my life so perfectly. It was so heartbreaking to read about how I have felt and still feel.
"Introverts view" was perfect. I could go on and on about this book. This poem was absolutely amazing and so relatable.
Qoute: "Introverts have loud thoughts they can't ignore." "Carry heavy secrets in their chest as they live."
"The most perfect life", "The Silent Fight", "The Worst Place", "Overrated Apologies" these where also so so perfect and i loved this book. Some of the poems were more relatable than others and therefore I think there is something everyone can relate to something in a way.
Qoute: "For me, changes have never been simple; I have always been the one to love rutines."
This book is really good and I would totaly reccomed it.
For me poetry is at its best when it puts you in your feelings. This book of poetry delivers on that front! The heartbreak and anguish comes through in the words written. I found myself relating to several of the poems and feeling the twinge in my heart as I relived my memories with these words.
Shalaka writes beautifully poignant poetry. There is something about reading young and emerging poets that is so distinctive - they feel life's sorrows so much more deeply. This collection is truly about sorrow, about the sorrow that love lost brings, and about how this young woman traverses it. Part of me wants to give her a gentle shake and offer advice like my own elders would have, which tells me that this collection is profoundly authentic. It comes from her heart.
She is still growing as a poet. I look forward to seeing her develop mastery with her imagery and with her own heart, of her own power as a woman. But that is a life journey and it will reflect in her poetry as she grows as both a woman and a poet. I'll stick around for that journey, as I think Shalaka has a talent that she will grow into and own in her own right. I look forward to seeing her life unfold within the pages of her next poetry chapters.
Symphony of Secrets highlights the difficulty of lost relationships. The author shares her inner struggles, and documents the many questions she has and lessons learned through brake up and searching for connection. When a new love is found the struggle to build a healthy relationship isn't easy. The questions expressed show the battle to overcome past hurts.
This collection of poems is free verse and reads very much like a diary. It's filled with honesty and struggles, which I appreciate.
Today I read a book about emotional open-heart surgery. Symphony of Secrets is a 5-star catharsis for anyone who has ever had a broken heart. Sanchez opens her heart to expose in stark and raw terms what a broken heart and subsequent healing feel like.
If you’ve ever had a broken heart or can feel the circumstance closing in where you will soon because of a breakup, death, military service separation, or whatever, this is the book of poems for you. It is not poems in the sense of rhyme and rhythm with matching syllabic words ending each line, and it is more prose in poetic form that delivers a wallop of a punch for the reader who needs to know they are not alone in their feelings of separation anxiety.
Even if you’re happy now, buy it for a future when your heart could become broken. Having this book on hand is better than looking for it and not finding it. So, consider this book as “broken-heart-insurance.”
I haven’t had a broken heart since college, but this book made me remember those awful days.
Was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review :)
As a young woman trying to navigate through my 20s, I feel like this book was so relatable to my past and my present state. Mia Sanchez's poetry was beautifully written, and you can feel the emotion she put into her words when crafting them. I loved how the poems themselves were all part of a larger, cohesive story. If you like poetry, I would definitely give her book a read. There is a poem in here (probably several) that everyone can related to in some way!
A copy of this book was sent to me in return for an honest review ~
This was an interesting poetry collection. It is mostly poems about predominantly a bad relationship/breakup and dealing with the aftermath of this but also being different and struggling in life. The author tells a story about her life throughout the different poems which is very cool to see!
I really liked some of the lines. I would describe the mood of this book as angry and sad so if you like this type of poetry, or the themes mentioned, check it out!
This collection embodies the Hemingway quote about writing: "All you have to do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." This is the second book by Mia Sanchez I read and in both instances she clearly pours her whole heart onto the page.
My favorite poem from this collection is Sometimes. It feels like a good reminder, as well as permission for our feelings.
My favorite quote from this collection comes from Midnight Scars: "Lovely memories that are inked on my skin: Like midnight scars that will never vanish."
I enjoyed this, despite confessional poetry not being my favourite genre. The poems are structured well, with an eye for precise language, and the poet doesn't ramble or come across as overly bitter or blameful for the difficulties she faces. I particularly like 'Online', which is very perceptive, and 'Sometimes', in part because I'm a sucker for a bit of repetition. Good stuff.
Each poem was written as part of a larger story, one that kept me wanting, kept me interested, kept me reading the entire collection in one sitting. Thank you for your writing. Can't wait for more!
I enjoyed this collection of poems. With over twenty poems each one is filled with emotion. I enjoyed, Introvert’s View the most. As an introvert I could relate to what the author wrote.
It was a wonderful collection with intense emotions that could be felt through each verse. The author spoke of love, hurt and heartbreak. Beautifully put together.
Symphony of secrets is a really good read, it was quite interesting to read as the writer goes through various emotions after a breakup. Totally recommend
I really enjoyed this gorgeous poetry collection by Mia Sanchez. These poems that are written in free verse are longer poems and I found them all to be very emotional and thought provoking. I loved the angsty, emotional tone. The author has a gift for bringing out emotion onto the page. Some favorites were: The Other Side, The Blame Game, The Most Perfect Life, Hidden Shadows, It’s Been a Little While, Sometimes, ….. Lovely collection! 5/5 stars.
So this is Emily online. This lovely book of poems is very important. Poets need to keep writing poetry and we need to keep reading it. Poetry is for the ages and must continue to embrace our hearts.
